Re: Thomas Schoorel
Thomas got as high as #94 last season in a breakthrough season, finishing with a 39-19 overall record, including an outstanding 29-12 on clay. After qualifying and making R2 of the French Open, Thomas' best result was making the finals of Dortmund challenger in Germany in July. However, his second half of the season was much more of a struggle and eventually cut-short in September due to a serious shoulder injury, which forced him to withdraw from tennis activity until mid-December. He finished 2011 #133 in the final ranking.
Thomas has a 7-6 record this season overall, with his best result being a SF in Cherbourg in late February. He has had struggles performing on hardcourt but the more experience gained off clay the better he will be on other surfaces, which will benefit him in the long run. What is most important is he has recovered from his shoulder injury and is healthy. As he continues to regain the feel of his game and confidence in himself, his results should go back to where they were this time last season.
Thomas' next event will be Davis Cup vs Romania in Amsterdam. The Romanian team is very week so the Dutch have a great opportunity to advance into the World Group playoffs in September. Whether Thomas is the #2 singles player or not has yet to be determined but in any case, he should get at least one match in this week and any matches are beneficial for him at this stage. GL to Thomas and the Dutch team in Davis Cup!
