It's very odd to see Marat on an entry list in france when there's a tourney going on in russia the same week

According to a Russian poster on another thread it is because he asked for too much money - at least twice the amount that they were willing or able to offer him.

very interesting and somewhat sad. I didn't realize the Lyon tourney was that loaded lol

Neither did I  I thought Basel was the one that paid the big money this week.
Exactly.

Or maybe Marat wasn't asking for anything that absurd but St. Petersburg is short on cash?

I'm pretty sure they're short on cash - which I think makes it pretty sad that he doesn't feel he can support them and help them out a little in his position  Ah well - that's his business I suppose

Moscow is his home event.

Marat isn't about money, he has been coming in Lyon a lot of time, over the last years, so i don't understand why it would change, sometimes players sign a long term contract with tournament, and they are to come every year!!!

Oh and the ATP events run under a communist system where everyone gets the same amount of money to turn up to an event.

Bigger guarantees in Lyon, Marat draws the crowd. Basic supply and demand.

No news til friday night before the event (a week from today), qualifying sign-in and draw at 9pm local time.

tennisclubsp.fr/index.htm is the link for that StPriest tournament .
Last year , Cedric Lenoir won and got a WC for Lyon'quallies , losing then in second round . Previous StPriest winners , the years before , were mostly at that level , top 30 to top 50 in France national ranking .
