Re: ^^Jonathan Eysseric^^

Apparently he was given a MD WC for Roland Garros.

Since Jo-Wilfried Tsonga declined the offer for one not wanting it to be wasted because he didn't felt good, i guess, the organizers tried to please youngsters.

Enjoy boy!

And he was interviewed by a web radio about his training with JesusFed (podcast of the May, 9th 2007, around the 2Oth minute) : http://www.radio-tennis.com

Re: ^^Jonathan Eysseric^^

MD???

I don't think he'll have much of a chance of winning but hopefully, he'll learn from the experience.

Re: ^^Jonathan Eysseric^^

Exactly, it's too early for him but it will be a good learning experience.

Hopefully he'll get a favorable draw and do some damage. I'm thrilled he got a WC

Re: ^^Jonathan Eysseric^^

Good luck.

Anyway, someone opened a thread on the meaning of players' names in GM. And since i'm fascinated by languages and patronymie (don't known the name in English) i made some research on most of the Frencies' last name. Here's what i came up on Eysseric.

Quote:
Eysseric : Most worn in Drôme, Hautes-Alpes and Vaucluse (just where the guy and his parents are from by the way...), is a common Occitan last name in France. It's the Occitan version of what used to be a first name of Germanic origin : Égiseric. Egiso = fear, -ric = powerful. It could also mean « powerful axe/chop » since the prefix Eysse- in Occitan French last names is coming from the word « aissa » = chop, adze; just like in the last name Eyssette which means "small axe". It's very distingably Occitan since Occitan French last names often countains ay/ey in them, just like Bayle, Peyre, Lapeyre (equivalent of the more modern French version Laporte) : name of a famous firm of doors-windows-furniture makers incidentally lol, Labeyrie (name of a famous house of foie gras makers...), Bayrou (French politician), Cayrol, Clavayrolles, Reynié (all famous people locally...) etc...

Re: ^^Jonathan Eysseric^^

That's really interesting.

I actually thought he might have Serbian ancestry since his name ends with "-ic" and he looks a bit Eastern European.

Re: ^^Jonathan Eysseric^^

Really? I had never thought this confusion could be made but, now that you mention it, for people not familiar with Occitan stuff, that's understandable i guess. You'll find a lot of Bretons having names ending in -ic, and Occitans having names ending in -ac (same for Occitan villages/towns, Aurillac comes to mind for exemple) so then you would mistake them for Eastern European names...

Btw, let's not get carried away, but who would Jon play next if he happens to win his R1 match?
