Re: 2007 Davis Cup: Draw Released!

No, sorry, the informations I found are all about the venue, the tickets, the volunteers, etc. but they don't mention the surface.

Forget talked a little bit about the Davis Cup team for next year in an interview for Sport24.com. It's not very clear because he's asked about the team for the 1st round and only speaks about the guys who would play against Russia. But - surprise surprise! - he doesn't seem to keen on giving another player his chance.
Quote:
http://www.sport24.com/sport24_artic...ee__12893.html

(Roughly:
He is asked about the team for the first round and answers you can't beat guys like Davydenko with a youngster who is completely new. You win this kind of matches with guts, experience, audacity and somehow, he will probably play with the same guys who played against Russia last time.
He'll have only 10 days for the first round because it will be just after the AO. So you can’t do a lot of technical or physical work, this part of the season is tough with the jet-lag. It’s more a question of team spirit, lik a “commando operation”, a desire to risk everything. They’ll focus on the group dynamics.)

Re: 2007 Davis Cup: Draw Released!

But Benneteau clearly said in an interview he'd like to play (in singles or in doubles) since he's number 3 in the rankings. He says it's a priority for him in 2007. The Davis Cup is special and it's out of question for him to give up his hope of being part of the team.

Re: 2007 Davis Cup: Draw Released!

I asked the FFT about the surface for the 1st round and here's the answer I just got:
(It's a mistake on the DC website, France did pick Taraflex for the first round.)

Both the decision and your action!!!

I could not have imagined such a strange decision.

Do they show the Davis Cup on France Télévision? We get F2, F3 and F5 now in Berlin.
(OT: more generally, do they show anything else than Roland-Garros on France Télévision?)

Not that much unfortunatly. But yes, they show DC on F2/F3. The 3 days in general, but it depends on the other sport actuality.

Re: 2007 Davis Cup: Draw Released!

Their coverage (unless it's a final or something...) sucks big time. I'd be a French tax payer i would be pissed off. For exemple they don't even show one single match of the Handball World Championships happening right now while well the French HB team is basically the best French team ever comparatively to every other collective sports (2 times World Champion, current European champion and among the favorites for the title according to many...). Commentaries during the Heineken Cup in rugby are outrageous and many people are getting irritated by them... Almost nobody below 50 years old care about cycling...Their weekly sport show sucks and is clearly for those who aren't really interested in sports since it's very very "simple"...They're just ok when it comes to atheltism and that's it. And they have 6 channels to put a bit of decent sport coverage!!! Well, not... They're a farce when it comes to sports IMO.

I don't know, but Seb says on his website that he will have recovered for the Davis Cup and he will start the preparation with the others on Thursday in Paris.

Thursday already, I thought the official get-together is on Sunday. Do they really need ten days to prepare for Romania?

I like the idea of Richard being around Guy. Maybe he will manage to talk some tactical sense into him.

Guy seems tough, however, I highly doubt Richard responding well to toughness.

Re: 2007 Davis Cup: Draw Released!

Sorry, my post wasn't very accurate (comme d'habitude )
Seb only says he will be on Thursday in Paris to get ready for the tie against Romania and he will take part to the DC training with the other guys. He doesn't say the get-together is on Thursday.

As for the team, I wanted Forget to pick Richard and Gael in singles + Bennet-Mahut in doubles, but we're almost sure to have another Gasquet/Grosjean/Clément/Llodra now.

I agree on the singles' choice, sooner or later Monfils has to grow into the team and start getting (half-) serious and why not at this tie, which France is so likely to win? I don't know enough about doubles to pick the team. I just feel Llodra is very reliable in doubles.
