Blancaneaux back from the brink
French 17-year-old Geoffrey Blancaneaux booked his place among the 14 players aged 21 and under to reach the second round of qualifying in dramatic fashion, saving two match points before posting a 3-6 7-6(4) 6-1 win over Japan's Hiroki Moriya.
Blancaneaux, the world No. 811 who shares his birthday with Roger Federer
, was playing just the second tour-level qualifying match of his fledgling career, but the wild card made the most of his opportunity to book a second-round showdown with Slovakian No.22 seed Andrej Martin, who beat Nils Langer of Germany 6-3 6-1.
