Re: Adrian Mannarino Cheering Thread

Wow, he made the Quarters, cool.

Good luck against Marc...hope I can get to watch!

Q. You must have so many different emotions going through your head. Was it like a rollercoaster for you?
STANISLAS WAWRINKA: Yeah, yeah, it's quite crazy..I never expect to win a Grand Slam.
I never dream about that because for me, I was not good enough to beat those guy.

Maybe the sky will fall?

Re: Adrian Mannarino Cheering Thread

He has an article every day in L'Equipe:
Quote:

On y prend goût.
He says he was really, really scared when he had to serve it out, he couldn't move anymore.
It's his biggest prize money so far (9200 €). "I don't pay attention to the money, but I want to win matches to be able to play tournaments like this one every week. One gets used to it."
His game looks so easy, it seems he never overdoes it (they compare him with Simon again for that). His former coach at the FFT Laurent Raymond: "The faster it is, the better it is for him. He's exceptionally gifted, with a good mental structure, emotionally very steady."
The father gave up his teacher job to coach his son. It seems the father was the issue when it didn't work with the FFT and Adrian went back to his club and his father. But he still gets financial support from the FFT.
Raymond is quite enthusiastic and means there is one guy able to produce this kind of tennis every 3 years in the world.

TBH, I've heard from people who were in Metz yesterday that De Voest was really poor, so no reason to get carried away. But Adrian himself isn't, he keeps saying in interviews he doesn't find it that big to have won these 2 matches.

Re: Adrian Mannarino Cheering Thread

He's awesome!

In his audio interview he says he served very well today, so there were less rallies than in his other matches. He usually likes to play longer rallies.
When he's asked about the prospect of playing Paulo in the next round, he means he doesn't care as he doesn't know the other French players except for Gicquel. He played maybe once with PHM in the past. Paulo or Tipsy, it won't make any difference for him.
A tournament like Metz and the Future of Plaisir he won 2 weeks ago are as different as night and day in terms of organization. As for the level of game, it's a bit better in Metz, of course, but he had to beat very good players in Plaisir too, like Ouanna "who could be here in my place today" or Faurel, so it gave him some confidence.
He doesn't think he will panic tomorrow, he has won 6 matches in a row, "I don't know why I would start playing badly over night".
When he was a kid, he was appealed by the left-handed players, so Rios was a sort of idol. But he has "less and less idols".

Re: Adrian Mannarino Cheering Thread

There was a livestream on Betfair, but I'm not sure it was available in France since Paris Première must have the rights?

I live in Germany, so I watched it and he was great. But I saw him play for the first time too, so I can't say if he was particularly on fire today. He means he can play a bit better than that, even if he sounds much more satisfied with his match today than after the first rounds.
He could/should have won even faster, he really was the better player. He just had a terrible game in the 2nd set when Gicquel broke back (he says that when he sat down at 6-4 *2-1, he looked at the watch, saw '45 minutes' and thought maybe he would be able to win in one hour - I'm not sure it's the best thing to think at that point of a match! ) But the rest was impressive.
He really reminds of Coria in his game and his movement (the same light touch) - but with a better serve, at least today.

What the hell? I'm so dumb, and I've got that channel, too! Though I don't understand, I watched a bit of the bangkok tournament on Bet365, and that was (partly) on sport+.

You mean you were at home, you have Paris Première and you were looking all the time for a livestream?!

He says he's a rather nervous person, but controls his nerves better and better.
He'll play the qualies of Lyon after Rennes and Kolding.

There is a short video about him here:

(the report about him starts around 4'00)

Re: Adrian Mannarino Cheering Thread

Play the qualies of ATP tournament like Lyon is always a good training but maybe he can ask for a WC ? I don't know if it's a good idea but he deserves one imo.

Re: Adrian Mannarino Cheering Thread

Thanks for all the articles/videos Fran, it's nice to hear more from him..

I agree that he certainly played well today (maybe the best I've seen from him too ), although I haven't seen him play since Surbiton back in June. His serve certainly seemed better than I remember it.
Congratulations Adrian on your 1st ATP semi, hope he can make the match against Paulo competitive, too.

Q. You must have so many different emotions going through your head. Was it like a rollercoaster for you?
