Davis Cup 2016, QF v Czech Rep

After all the recent mess and problems, all the French players still seem to be committed to DC, so here we go again.

The 2016 draw takes place tonight in Chile, 7pm local time. France are seeded #5, and can draw:

Canada, Croatia, Germany, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Poland or USA.

(Because certain teams have played each other twice in R1 the last 2 years, they must now be drawn on opposite side of the draw - this applies to GB & USA, and also Canada & Japan.)

Fun draw ahead!

Re: Davis Cup 2016, R1 v Canada

France have drawn Canada R1 (playing in France) and have been pretty lucky with their draw.

The tie will be played 4th-6th March next year. Hard to imagine that France won't choose clay for this.

Full draw is here:

Re: Davis Cup 2016, R1 v Canada

Obviously France is one if not the favorite team for 2016 since other top ten players will barely play it and surely not the big four

Yesterday the staff who was already known has been officially revealed.

Lionel Roux is replaced by Pioline and Loic Couteau two for one since you know Noah won't travel, it's too much for his greatness and his amazing winning speech which has to be keep for the davis cup week

Courteau will lead the trainings during the week before ties as he's the only one who he's really a coach.

Xavier Moreau physical trainer for Fed Cup and former trainer in FFT and of Mauresmo or Pierce currently working with Tsonga and Mahut will be the trainer. I still don't know how he can do all this but we'll see.

Medical staff remains the same despite all controversy over the years about player's injuries . Of course the Tsonga's one in Lille but I remember Gasquet, Grosjean or Monfils debates on injuries. Anyway the two physio are the youngest of the staff and quite good they stay in the team they seem get along with players and good guys. The stringer is still there since 1991

It's not really a fresh team as they are in the french circuit since ages and average 50 years old staff. To be picked you had to be friend with Noah actually. The physios remained surely because they are good and Noah don't know physio under 60 years old

The surface should be clay and we all have noted that Tsonga will do the south american swing before that tie.

Re: Davis Cup 2016, R1 v Canada

I am not convinced about this team, notably Pioline's role. If I remember correctly he was very controversial with DC as a player.

Does the FFT really think it will work with Noah if he gives inflammatory speeches just before the match? Management from afar.

I personally regret the departure of Quétin, I feel he did well with Richard and Simon when they shared him.

As for Courteau, I saw hime once working with PHM in Monte Carlo and this is one of the practises still right in my head, must have been before 2010 if my memory serves me well. As for Montalvan: no comment. Every word would be an insult.

Re: Davis Cup 2016, R1 v Canada

Pioline was also a diva in Davis Cup so maybe he's the right guy to understand others divas

Courteau was the coach of Paulo during 2009 I think. Courteau wanted Paulo go more often at the net and Paulo didn't want to change his game. It never work really well between them anyway great coach but not a fresh one or a new eye on french players in my opinion.

For the Doc every player loves him bit I found a bit strange that considering all the injuries mess we had at least during last ten years it never comes to someone to take a special doc for DC. Players put pressure on doc and doc is too much involves in the team at one moment.

Anyway we had great draw so even being passable could be enough.

Playing this tie on clay would be a good idea.

Apparently this is the shortlist of towns for the tie against Canada.

Apparently, it is near Angers, where Mahut is from, and he hopes the FFT will choose Trélazé. (It's in the Pays de la Loire region)

According to Tennis Actu, Trélazé has a 5000 seat stadium and was considered last year for France - Australia until the tie went to Mouilleron-Le-Captif instead.

Re: Davis Cup 2016, R1 v Canada

For the french speaking, here's a interview with Noah in L'équipe about the Davis Cup:
Coupe Davis - Yannick Noah*: «Responsabiliser les joueurs»

For Pratik, about the double:

So he acknowledges the three teams, but the one he speaks the most about is Jo-Richard. Don't know if we should draw any conclusion about it though...

Gasquet ● B.Baker ● Soderling ● Wawrinka ● Federer ● Goffin ● Sijsling ● Youzhny ● Thiem ● Gulbis ● Mahut ● Brown ● F.Mayer ● Tomic

I had the same feeling when I read that. He seemed to talk about them a lot.

Re: Davis Cup 2016, R1 v Canada

That's what rumors said Noah want to win with our big four. He wants Tsonga or Gasquet to play the three days if it needed. If injuries Noah need others players that's why he try to not tell them he dont' care about them

Clay is almost official

The French have delayed the choice of location until December 4th. This is to give Guadeloupe time to apply from overseas and be a candidate.

Noah wants this but the cost is near 800 000€ three times the normal cost for a home tie
