Re: Nicolas Mahut

Finally a great win! I've been cheering for him since I saw him in person in Hamburg and he couldn't win a match anymore, except at the Queen's, it was getting depressing.
I could only watch the first set yesterday, but he was great!

Is there any French blog or forum about Nico, btw? I only knew the blog of tennisculture, but it hasn't been updated for ages, where is everybody now?

Someone earlier on in this thread had posted a website but I am not able to see if they are still running since I am at my work computer. Some friends of mine recently met him and he was extremely kind to them. Nice folks always find a spot in my cheering section

Re: Nicolas Mahut

Thanks, but that's the one I meant and it isn't updated anymore. tennisculture seemed such a huge fan, maybe she started another bigger website about him somewhere else? This thread isn't very active, so I thought maybe there is another place where his fans post.

Re: Nicolas Mahut

In L'Equipe:
Quote:
He says about his great match against Tipsy that it was about time for him to win a match, even if he felt all the time that he was actually playing well and that he was going to win again at some point.
The interruption was fatal for him yesterday, he made a silly mistake, didn’t eat during the rain break and when the match resumed. So after the TB, he relaxed too much and was hungry at the same time, felt sluggish, was broken and since Roddick was serving better and better (at 220-230 km/h, 10 aces in the 3rd set), it was over for him.
“But I could feel my game is there. Since I’m not in the main draw of Cincy, I will take one week off. And I hope that the problems which have been bothering me off the court will be solved quickly. I don’t want to tell more about it because I’m afraid to be clumsy and pick the wrong words.” Clearly the fact that he’s been sharing his coach with Gasquet for 2 months now weighs heavy on him.

I was waiting for a comment like that already for some time. It must be akward for Mahut, reminds me of the Mathieu/Champion/Monfils-story earlier this year.

But unfortunately for him, it is a lose-lose situation, if Peyre succeeds in making Richard improve, and the signs look promising, Lagardère will decide and I don't hesitate for a second about the outcome.

Re: Nicolas Mahut

I know, and I imagine Richard doesn't feel very comfortable himself. I can't believe they can't find better solutions than these "binômes" which are never going to work with the top players, frankly.
But according to L'Equipe today, Champion will probably now coach Eysseric, so Eysseric's coach Olivier Soulès could work again with Nico (he was already his coach before he started coaching Eysseric).

The Frenchies love playing musical chairs, but the Team Lagardère is taking it to a new dimension...

Re: Nicolas Mahut

I really hope that they can get this coaching situation sorted because it really doesn't seem to be helping Nico. I agree about it feeling too much like the Paulo/Monfils situation and I don't like it when these things happen because inevitably one side (player) usually suffers.

I hope Nico feels better soon and transfers that into better days on court.

Q. You must have so many different emotions going through your head. Was it like a rollercoaster for you?
STANISLAS WAWRINKA: Yeah, yeah, it's quite crazy..I never expect to win a Grand Slam.
I never dream about that because for me, I was not good enough to beat those guy.

Maybe the sky will fall?

Re: Nicolas Mahut

Hi, watched Nico beat cranky Odesnik on Sunday. The crowd seemed to be for Odesnik at the start, but the more he complained, the more the crowd was for Nico.

Does he have a coach--I didn't see one? He seemed to be looking into the crowd a lot to find inspiration!!

He plays doubles with Seb tonight.

Re: Nicolas Mahut

So Peyre isn't with him in Washington either?

Maybe he's already back with Soulès, I don't know. I always mix up the "Olivier", but I think this is Soulès in the pic if you want to try to spot him (or ask Nico himself if you get the chance to, I'd like to know too and that way you'll have a question to start up a conversation!):

Actually, I did see that guy (no beard) practicing with him on Saturday morning, but I didn't see him during the match in the very sparse crowd. At first I saw who I thought was him, then it really seemed that it was Odesnik's coach by the way those two were interacting each other! Hmm, would that happen!!??

I could have asked him yesterday evening when he left the court.

Re: Nicolas Mahut

Just wanted to say that I saw Mahut last night and he looked to be a really nice guy. Though he lost the first set, he was able to turn it around even though the sparse crowd had two groups of young men cheering loudly for Odesnik. The ladies were happily clapping for Mahut. He seemed very appreciative that the crowd gave him a warm welcome.

Re: Nicolas Mahut

I saw Mahut Sunday and as I was leaving, I did see a guy with a Lagardere shirt on, not sure who he is but I also saw him at the doubles match last night. Anyone have photos of these coaches, then I might be able to ID him. Anyway, the rowdy group of Wayne supporters were quite funny, IMO, made me laugh at times. Mahut finally started getting more and more support the further into the match and it appeared that Odesnik was getting a bit frustrated. Good win.

I kept running into Mahut yesterday, saw him hitting, almost ran into him leaving the practice court, practically tripped over his racket bag getting into the Grandstand (he was watching a bit of Gicquel's match), then again when he played his doubles match (they got whipped).
