Yes! It could have been worse.
In the second round, it could be a Qualif. or Bracciali.
Allez Flo!

Despite he was in the entry list he wasn’t going to play in Zagreb. He decided to go to South America and play there on clay until Masters in USA. I think that’s because his main aim of the season is RG so he needs to practise on clay more.

He lost in the first round of Buenos Aires to Calleri 0/6 4/6 but inspite of that he’s satisfied and thinks the hard work he’s done since early lose in AO was right (perhaps he just let himself to do some experiments in that match). It’s very important, maybe even the most important thing, - that he is sure in himself and the things he does . It’s great that his mentality becomes stronger. Continue in the same spirit, Florent!

Re: Florent Serra

Seems Florent can’t get on with the weather conditions of South America . I don’t know why it happens, but maybe it’s logically . During his professional career he’s played several challengers in S. America and he had 5 losses in the 1st round (in 2003, 3 times in 2004, one more in 2005). On other side he played in a quarterfinal in 2003 and even won Mexico City challenger in 2005. And last year Florent won on clay almost 3 times more matches than he lost . So I don’t actually know what happens with this guy now, after such a great beginning of the season .

Anyway the last tournaments in the recap look the next way. Flo (with his 37th ranking position) loses in the first round of Buenos Aires to Calleri (96th of the race) 0-6 4-6 and then retires from the second round of doubles due to acute allergy . Last week he plays in Brazil, wins with a supreme effort the first round against Dlouhy (140) 6-3 2-6 6-4 and then loses to Monaco (71) 1-6 1-6 . And sure there is a loss in the first round of doubles. I’ve got the info that Florent was slack and not so active in his matches and that the Europeans just aren't dealing with the South American humidity at all. Although Florent’s countrymate and doubles partner Patience felt himself quite comfortably and lost in the semis only .

After all, yesterday Florent lost his first match in Mexico against Marin (103, Q) 4-6 7-6(4) 4-6... Sure he tried hard but something really goes wrong... And that’s very sad . Tonight he plays a doubles match in a couple with Vicente (who played in doubles semis 2 weeks ago) against wild carded Mexican couple.

And not everything is so sad! Today it’s Florent’s 25th birthday . Bon anniversaire Flo ! Still young, still full of energy and ambitions. Allez!

A couple of pictures from the last matches:

Re: Florent Serra

I confess that I didn't really follow his results in South America.
So, thank you for the updates Irina

Re: Florent Serra

yes, i have been following his results in south america...and they haven't been good at all! it is a shame for him, since he started the year off so well in adelaide but after that, it's just gone downhill. maybe he would have been better off doing the european tournaments, i don't know

let's hope his luck changes at the US masters tournaments!!

bonne chance aujourd'hui en double!! et oui, bon anniversaire aussi!

Re: Florent Serra

I'm glad he won his birthday match, he really deserved it . Serra/Vicente def. (WC)Echagaray/Gallardo Valles (whom?.. ) 6-3 7-6(2).

Next match I guess is tomorrow, so Florent still has time to continue practising on his favorite clay. Though Masters and exchanges of the surface and climate should be useful for him. Let's hope.

Nice to see Flo is not forgotten . Salut les filles! lol

Yes, maybe it's a shame after such a great start of the season and reaching top 40 not being able to go through 2nd or even 1st round of tounaments losing to guys from the second hundred... But I have no doubts he's doing everything that is possible - and the real results have to come. *somewhen in the end of May *

UPD (for the history): Starace/Volandri d Serra/Vicente 76(4) 63. A tough match it was though.
