Re: Seb De Chaunac...

In L'Equipe today:
Quote:
Who would have predicted that out of the 15 Frenchies in the qualies, Seb de Chaunac, 31 y. old, #252 in the rankings, would be the only one to qualify? Certainly not Seb himself. The day before the qualies draw, he practiced with A. Clément and was absolutely subpar. Arnaud: "I'm totally serious, he was playing -2/6 at best (would be around #200 in the French rankings)". Seb was desperate, goes back to his hotel room, explains to his roommate Lugassy that his game is in a pitiful state, his FH is just horrendous, etc. The draw comes out: he plays Lugassy in the first round and wins 6-3 6-4. He says that the dreadful training session with Arnaud probably helped him because he had zero expectations (and Lugassy maybe was a bit frustrated too to see him play well out of the blue).

And a video:
http://video.lequipe.fr/video/iLyROoafJcy8.html
It's only the 3rd time he qualifies for a Slam MD.
He looks so happy, it's nice to see.

He plays Darcis in the 1st round.

Re: Seb De Chaunac...

He just won in the 2nd round of the SA open, very tight match. Next up a 1/4 against Chardy. Great news from him!

Re: Seb De Chaunac...

Does Seb still have his column in Tennis Magazine ? It was the only interesting thing there is (were ?) into it in my opinion... If it still exists would it be possible for someone to post it here regularly ?
Thanks

Here are the last one and the one of February (2 pages since he had a lot to say after Melbourne):

I just realized I have only access to the last issues with my new computer.
November and December 2008, that's all I have:

Re: Seb De Chaunac...

Thank you very much Françoise !!!!!!
I Knew you'd be the one who would answer.

By the way he is in 1/2 in Jersey after he beat Stoppini today: 46 62 64. His next opponent is either jan Minar or Mannarino.

Re: Seb De Chaunac...

The new one:

He always calls Olivier by his nickname "La Pace", but how do you pronounce it? "La Passe" or the English way? (It took me so long to realize Benneteau's nickname is pronounced Bennett and not Benêt.)

Re: Seb De Chaunac...

I would pronounce "Doud" the French way, but I'm not sure. His nickname cracks me up because it makes me think of Jane Birkin's song "Di doo dah".

I asked a friend who is a huge fan of Olivier and she says it's definitely "La Passe".

Re: Seb De Chaunac...

Here's the new chronique, sorry for the poor quality, the other website where I used to buy it isn't working anymore:

The missing lines are:
and
"on a tous envie d'y participer, d'y briller.

(Tennis Magazine is so incredibly BAD. For years now. I can't find anything to read in it.)
