Re: Davis Cup 2010: France against Germany

Next round against Spain (99%) will be in France, so probably indoor (as grass won't be allowed, it's a shame)... If Nadal plays, the odds aren't very high IMO. For the frenchmen, he is the worst after Federer (I would prefer Djoko or Murray by a lot) !
And even without him, Verdasco, Ferrer, Ferrero, Lopez is a tough match on hard courts. So maybe Nadal would risk not to come, as it will be in the middle of the clay court season ?

QF is played right after Wimbledon!

Grass would be the logical choice, France can host tons of MM tourneys, but is not able to put on an appropriate grass court.

Re: Davis Cup 2010: France against Germany

Stop rolling your eyes at France, I feel like you're rolling your eyes at me What is MM tourneys by the way, I don't know this name ?

Even if we had good grasscourts, indoors would still be the most logical choice to me : remember Jo winning Bercy, GaŽl making semis, Gilles' great run in Madrid, Richard is doing well on it too... and Rafa still won Wimbledon ! If Rafa wasn't there it would be a bit different, since Ferrer is great indoors, but we know Rafa will always play DC if he's fit as he's as crazy about it as Jo. I'm less sure about Verdasco, he missed a few of the ties and he's won the cup once already, so the novelty attract isn't there.

Anyway I think they will prefer to play on a surface where they're strong and the others are too than on one where nobody can play well (except Richard and Rafa plus if you don't want Richard to play DC, better not to choose grass !)

There is another problem : can they play indoors in the middle of July ? It will be so damn hot.

Anyway let's not sell the bear's skin before having killed it, it's not yet done for Spain, Wawrinka seems to be on fire.

Celebration :

I have two versions of this pic, I can't decide which is the best one : GaŽl drapped in the flag and taking Richard by the wrist to get him to come with them :

Bennet was happy like a little kid

Now I'm off for the last day

Re: Davis Cup 2010: France against Germany

Great pics, thanks!

MM is just "MTF terminology", it means "Micky Mouse" tournaments, it was used at the beginning for jokes of ATP events which were not better than Challengers, like Casablanca, Newport and Metz. It has become overused and people are now using it for any ATP 250 event (even when they have very decent fields).

Grass would clearly be the best choice at that time of the year imo, the only player who doesn't do well on grass is GaŽl, but it's not even an option, it will be on hard.
Ysern says they were considering playing it in RG - not on clay, of course, but with a different surface laid on the clay. But he doesn't sound very enthusiastic about it.

Yes it occurred to me that he might get a game but Sky are trailing it as Jo vs Kohli and Gael v Becker. We'll see what happens

Richard can't play, he's not on the team.
It will be Jo and Julien. Against Greul and Becker, no Kas. :-/

Don't take everything personal when there was no intention at all.

Exactly, . Llodra has won Wimbledon in doubles, Jo could do well on this surfcae and Richard is top on grass. I feel it would be more than weird to play indoors in France in July. And this is not directed at you.
