Re: Jesse Levine

he lost again, but it's probably also a bit of bad luck as Massu moved into the quarters as a qualifier, where Ferrero beat him on his way to the final vs. Kohlschreiber

however, Levine got a pretty good draw in Melbourne, Vassalo Arguello is a guy who he can beat on hard court
and 2nd round against Nieminen (or Dancevic) isn't impossible too

Jesse! So very pleased for him.

Best twitter posts of the epic match:

@dougrobson - Whoever is supplying Mahut with hair gel needs to ink a sponsorship deal now.

@Wimbledon - FYI, with @Wimbledon live scoring devices, please add 50 to the games in the fifth set of the Isner v Mahut match.

@HolterMedia - Nice to see that a three-day test has come to tennis here @wimbledon.

Re: Jesse Levine

Levine lost 2-6, 5-7, 6-7. He served for both the second and third sets. That's a terrible way to lose.

He got screwed on a couple of calls in his last service game and the tiebreaker in the third set. One of them was a chair overrule, which was a disgustingly bad call.

BTW, Levine and Nieminen are virtually identical players. If you haven't seen Levine, just picture a younger Nieminen.

Re: Jesse Levine

I noticed that too, SHB, that they played quite similarly. I loved to see how much Jesse went into net, great sign for a young player. He was quite overwhelmed at the beginning of the match, I think, and he could barely keep the ball in play. As for not being able to serve out the 2nd and 3rd sets, that could haunt him for a little while....

Re: Jesse Levine

Yeah, I love his willingness to come into net (the same with Donald Young). He definitely needs to work on the unforced errors, though.

Re: Jesse Levine

He definitely got screwed on a lot of calls. That one overrule in the tiebreak was just completely ridiculous.

Oh well, still a great tournament and experience for him.

Re: Jesse Levine

Here's an article on Levine from the Montreal Gazette:

http://www.canada.com/topics/sports/...a-6c8b4f6e7a55

It discusses his decision to play for the U.S, which was discussed here a while back. He doesn't completely slam the door on playing for Canada in the future, but it sounds pretty unlikely. "I'm not Canadian. I hate when people say I'm Canadian. I play for the U.S.," he said.

It's funny he says that because the commentator during his match at the U.S. Open kept referring to him as Canadian. It was probably an honest mistake, but I get the impression that some fans and members of the media think of foreign-born players as being less American.

BTW, the author of the article said that Levine can represent the U.S. because his dad is American. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that irrelevant to whether he can represent the U.S.? All you have to be is a citizen, right? I know that foreign-born Americans like Nikita Kryvonos and Alex Kuznetsov have been Davis Cup practice partners, and I don't think their parents are American-born.

I think you're right - sounds like shoddy reporting. Amer Delic plays for the US and he didn't even move here til he was about 13. The womens doubles player Huber just became a citizen and now plays under the US Flag and she can play Fed Cup. Same for Monica Seles. I don't think his parentage has anything to do with it - except that it may have made it easier to become a citizen or something like that, I'm not sure.

Thanks for the article!
