I'm not sure I would agree with that. I'm totally against Donald Young hogging up all the U.S. wild cards this year, but in principle I agree with the USTA trying to help out young players, instead of journeymen (I just think they should be helping out 18 year-olds who showed promise in the juniors & are full-time pros rather than over-hyped 15 year-olds.) Sure exceptions should be made for players like James Blake (who isn't a journeyman in any sense), but generally if a player hasn't taken advantage of his opportunities (wild cards, etc.) by the time he's 21-22 (maybe a little older if he stayed in college), he shouldn't continue to get freebies (prize money, points) at the expense of younger players. I have nothing against Goldstein, but he & his peers got their fair share of wild cards when they were younger & it's time for someone else to have a chance (not Donald Young).
