Re: Christian Harrison

Quote:
Playing in his first ATP World Tour main draw, Harrison defeated an experienced Colombian in 6-1, 6-7 (7), 6-2.

Moving well and relying on his serve, Harrison has two break points to possibly close the match out in two sets, but Falla raised his game and Harrison was forced to win it in three.

"I've worked hard on my movement, to make sure I'm the fittest one out there," explained the younger Harrison.

Harrison appeared much fitter than Falla who reached the finals last week in Bogota, but started out slowly in the heat and humidity of Atlanta.

Moving Falla from side to side was the game plan, stated Harrison.

"If I could get him stretched, I thought I could get him tired."

Harrison served at 56% and converted three break points in the 2 hour and 11 minute match.

Among those congratulating Harrison after the match were his brother Ryan, Justin Gimelstob, and a throng of fans.

On his brother Ryan:

"He was really supportive. We had a talk in Newport and had a discussion about whether he would win an ATP Tour event before I won an ATP match."

Looks like that discussion won't be taking place again.

Christian now advances to take on top-seeded John Isner in the second round at the BB&T Atlanta Open on Thursday.

Re: Christian Harrison

Too bad he lost but it was so amazing tennis from Christian! I was impressed. If Isner wasn't serving 2 aces a game plus a lot of service winners EVERYTIME Christian would've won. Overall very happy with his play!!

Re: Christian Harrison

He should move up from 374 to somewhere around 330-335 next week . Does anyone know where he goes next?

Had his chances for sure but I really shouldn't ask for that much at this point. I hope this match serves as a confidence boost for him. I do think he has what it takes he just needs to buff up a little.

He actually lost 9 points b/c he did not defend his Lexington Challenger semis (this week).

Re: Christian Harrison

Wow, great showing. To push Isner that much despite the fact that Isner served over 70% is impressive. Christian actually won one more point than Isner.

This showing in Atlanta makes me wonder why he's had such lackluster results in Challengers and even some Futures. If you can beat Falla and play Isner this tough, you ought to be able to beat players like Kuznetsov and Smyczek.

Because Kuznetsov and Smyzcek have a backhand and they are currently playing the best tennis of their life.

Which is still well short of Isner's level of play, backhand or not. You think Isner is a better matchup for Harrison?

Christian has a good serve that he can get reasonable power with and also can place very well, he has nice footwork and a fairly solid forehand. But I do agree that his backhand is poor and often lands around the service line. Even with his poor backhand, he should really have better results in futures.
