He lost 6-4, 7-6, which I consider a success. He served great. I don't know how he can play Haas tight and yet struggle to win two consecutive matches in Futures qualifying. Britton is the biggest enigma in American tennis right now.
It's actually very simple, honestly. Look at the surface of every single one of these futures he has played in the last few months. They are all on a clay, a surface he is quite frankly awful on. This just reeks of USTA stupidity. Instead of letting a young guy build confidence early on in the pros on a surface that he is comfortable on, they are having him try and play on a surface that he is horrible on. With the style of game he plays his game will never be suited for clay. If he has DA to the French Open then fine, work on his clay game. But it seems counterproductive, at best, to have him on a surface that he's not gonna beat anybody on when he's trying to start his pro career well.
Anyway, rant over.
Devin's got a WC into the Brownsville HARDCOURT
futures and he's got fellow WC former USC player Gary Sacks in the first round.
