6-4 7-5, will play Kyle Edmund for the title. Good luck and let's make the best of it since there are only few clay futures left.

So he fought back, great to hear If I have to guess, he probably went for broke on the return while Edmund served for the match. Have seen him done that in the past, not always successful though

Ohio native rallies to win Bluewater tennis tourney

Quote:
By BRANDON WALKER / Daily News
Published: Sunday, November 11, 2012 at 17:54 PM.

BLUEWATER BAY - Down five games to two in the final set and facing three match points against a hard-serving opponent, 21-year-old Chase Buchanan was up against long odds in the final match of the USTA Pro Circuit $10,000 Futures tournament.

No problem.

Buchanan, a 21-year-old from Columbus, Ohio, rallied to break the serve of 17-year-old Kyle Edmund and finished the match winning five straight games to earn the tournament championship before an appreciative crowd Sunday afternoon.

“I really had a couple of bad starts in the first and third sets,” said Buchanan, who won the match by scores of 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. “He’s such a strong player, when he gets ahead of you, he plays better. So when I opened those sets by making so many mistakes, I was helping him out. Once I got settled down, I was able to come back and get the win.”

Edmund, from Yorkshire, England, was the tournament’s youngest player at 17, and he advanced to the finals by upsetting top-seeded Frenchman Florian Reynet on Saturday. In the finale, Edmund seemed to take charge of the final set, rushing out to the 5-2 advantage using a booming serve and powerful ground strokes. In winning the first five games of the final set, Edmund recorded six aces.

Once behind 5-2, though, Buchanan took his game up a level. After holding serve twice and breaking Edmund once to even the set at 5-5, Buchanan found himself down 15-40 with Edmund in serve. Once again, it was no problem for the Ohio native, who fought his way back to deuce and then broke through to take a 6-5 advantage. In serve, Buchanan closed out the match with a powerful forehand that wasn’t returned by Edmund.

“I thought when I was able to climb out of that hole and get ahead of him 6-5, I felt then that I really had a chance to take this thing,” said Buchanan. “He’s a great player. I really had to start playing great tennis to get past him.”

Buchanan’s victory was the last match of the event, which started Tuesday at Bluewater Bay. In the other final Sunday, Americans Ryan Thatcher and Jason Jung claimed the doubles title by topping Brazil’s Andrei Vasilevski and New Zealand’s Artem Sitak in straight sets.

After his win, Buchanan marveled at the week-long tournament.

“This event was awesome,” said Buchanan. “Great scenery, great people…You really can’t ask for much more than that.”
