Rafter, Smith To Play Hall Of Fame Classic

Two-time U.S. Open champion Patrick Rafter is returning to the court and you can watch him in action next month. The International Tennis Hall of Fame announced that a Hall of Fame Classic doubles exhibition has been scheduled for Sunday morning July 16, and will feature 2006 Hall of Fame inductee Rafter and 1987 Hall of Famer Stan Smith.
This special doubles exhibition will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Bill Talbert Center Court at the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
The event is in conjunction with the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships and the Class of 2006 Induction Weekend. Additional players competing in the Hall of Fame Classic with Rafter and Smith will soon be announced.

. Rafter won consecutive U.S. Open championships in 1997-98 and attained the World No. 1 ranking. In his 12-year career, he posted a 358-191 win-loss record, including 11 singles titles. In addition, he won the 1999 Australian Open doubles championship and finished his career with 12 doubles titles. He played on Australia’s Davis Cup team for eight years, completing his career with a 21-11 win-loss record.
A 1987 Hall of Fame inductee, Smith captured seven majors including the 1971 U.S. Open and the 1972 Wimbledon singles championships. He was ranked in the World Top 10 six straight years (1970-75) attaining the No. 1 world ranking in 1972. His doubles achievements include four U.S. Open titles (’68,’74,’78 and ’80), and the 1970 Australian Open. One of the great U.S. Davis Cup players, he was a key factor in seven U.S. Cup victories, posting an incredible 35-8 win-loss record.
The Hall of Fame Classic will be held as a separate ticketed event prior to the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championship singles and doubles finals (starting at 2 p.m). Tickets for the Campbell’s final matches are still available, as well as tournament tickets for the Monday through Friday tennis sessions. Tickets for Saturday’s semifinal matches and the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony are sold out.
Proceeds from the Hall of Fame Classic benefit the International Tennis Hall of Fame, supporting its mission in preserving the history of tennis, inspiring and encouraging junior tennis development, enshrining tennis heroes and heroines, and providing a landmark for tennis enthusiasts worldwide.
The International Tennis Hall of Fame is the sport’s official Hall of Fame and is recognized by the International Tennis Federation, the governing body of tennis. During the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships, the International Tennis Hall of Fame will hold the Class of 2006 Induction Ceremony on Saturday, July 15, prior to the semifinal matches of the tournament. This year’s inductees are Recent Players Rafter and Gabriela Sabatini, Contributor Gianni Clerici, and Master Players (all posthumously) Nancye Wynne Bolton, Marion Jones Farquhar, Arthur Gore, Karel Kozeluh, Herbert Lawford, Simonne Mathieu and Hans Nusslein.
