Re: ~Thread for the clay season (next: Munich)~

today around 1.30 pm CET, 1st round in Munich, Jarkko vs Schuettler, their 7th meeting overall (H2H is tied 3-3)

the match is shown on the Betfair livestream (http://livevideo.betfair.com/Default.do), it's good to see in which kind of form Jarkko really is at the moment

Re: ~Thread for the clay season (next: Munich)~

Jarkko took a solid 6-4 6-4 win.

Beating Rainer doesn't tell too much about Jarkko's form, but the next match against another familiar German probably will. Jarkko and Philipp played 5 times last year, with Jarkko winning 4 of them but Kohlschreiber taking the last one.

Kohli is a tough player, and I bet the good wins at Indian Wells, Barcelona, Halle and Wimbledon boosted Jarkko's confidence a lot last spring. It woud be very important for Jarkko now to show himself that he's still the better player.

Re: ~Thread for the clay season (next: Rome)~

Kohlschreiber beat Jarkko 6-1 6-4.

Poor Jarkko, he's gotten nowhere near the form and especially the confidence of last year. Things don't look good ahead of the climax of the clay court season. I feel Jarkko needs some luck with draws now to maybe get a few wins in a row under his belt, and thus hopefully build some form and confidence. He has to start to believe in his shots in the big points again. It's just not happening at the moment.

Re: ~Thread for the clay season (next: Rome)~

Losses today in both singles and doubles bye bye München

Atleast Jarkko is fit and fresh (unlike this time last year) for the next week in Rome. Now it's time to make some results again, the next three tournaments will be very important for Jarkko's ranking and confidence...

The form isn't so horrible based on this week, but his confidence is very low. Jarkko can't win any of the crucial points (bp's for or against) at the moment. I agree, he could really use some help with the draws for Rome and Hamburg

Re: ~Thread for the clay season (next: Rome)~

Tough day for Jarkko. According to YLE he was very disappointed in his own game against Kohlschreiber and then another painful lose in doubles surely didn't help things. But as you guys said, he will need those few good big wins to get his confidence back, because the game is still there for sure. Some luck with the draws in these coming events and things will turn much brighter pretty soon. Come on Jarkko!

Re: ~Thread for the clay season (next: Rome)~

Poor Jarkko.

As you all said, Jarkko really needs his confidence back at this moment. Last season he was one of the best on tour of converting breakpoints (not sure if he was even #1), but this year he seems to lack confidence a lot in those very important points. All we can do is just hope a nice draw for Rome, then two or three wins there and Jarkko could get his form back on track again. There're very crucial tournaments coming up for Jarkko in the next few weeks.

Come on Jake and good luck for Rome!

Jarkko Nieminen

Safin - Nalbandian - Roddick

Martin Brodeur - Mario Lemieux - Sidney Crosby - Cesc Fabregas

Re: ~Thread for the clay season (next: Rome)~

Tomas def. Jarkko 6-4, 7-5. Tomas broke for the first set, when Jarkko was serving *4-5. Jarkko was serving for the second set *5-4 30-30, got broken and lost the next two games.

Re: ~Thread for the clay season (next: Rome)~

Last year he could easily have turned this kind of match on his way, but now that he don't have confidence almost at all, the results is this. Jarkko really needs to start winning tight matches or this is starting to look bad...

In doubles first round Jarkko and Robin Söderling defeated Stepanek/Bhupathi 6-4, 4-6, 11-9
