Re: Jarkko Nieminen and other Finnish players

Nieminen-Ferrero match is played today on Centre Court, it's the second match in the schedule and it doesn't start before 7:00 PM CET.

It's quite hard to predict, what to expect from Jarkko today. Will his good form continue from Stuttgart or will he have a mental lapse and lose easily. He also might be quite tired from all the matches he has played in the last two weeks. Anyway, good luck to Jarkko!

Btw, Jarkko's ranking rose ten places from last week and he is now 56th in the entry rankings. Top 50 is close again!

Re: Jarkko Nieminen and other Finnish players

Yeah it will surely be tough match against JC. But I expect Jarkko to win him if he continues playing very good tennis like in Stuttgart last week. JC hasn't play over 1,5 half week so I think Jarkko's get advance in this because he has played good matches (example won Melzer&Novak). Jarkko is physically of dynamite so he hasn't any problems to play much like last two weeks . Both players last match are ironic against Nadal ! JC lost 6-3, 6-3 and Jarkko 6-2, 7-5. If Jarkko's also nerves in iron he can win this match today.

Hopefully he win tonight

Re: Jarkko Nieminen and other Finnish players

According to reports, it looks like Jarkko was just ill and that it was at least no new injury. He looked without power, tired and ill. Maybe he disagreed with some food or anything of that.

It that's right, it can be cured faster than an injury and that would be still positive, despite the retirement.

Carlos --- C'MON Lleyton!!! --- Kiwi!!! --- Jürgen --- Juan

Best of luck to all Germans : Nicolas Kiefer | Rainer Schüttler | Lars | Florian | Tommy

I'm sure Jarkko will be fine in Sopot next week. Let's forget this week.

I saw the Nieminen/Rieschick match today. He was so bad. No power in his shots, nevertheless many unforced errors, I can't believe he was no.270 and played AusOpen2004.

I heard that he had a stomach injury which isn't promising as he's had one before.

He had a stomach upset the night before the match, not a stomach injury! Something wrong with the food I guess, he threw up a few times.

He might play his doubles match today, but I cannot be sure until I see his name on the scoreboard.

E: Nieminen/Wassen vs. Dlouhy/Vanek is on the scoreboard, so that means Jarkko must be feeling better.

Nieminen/Wassen d. Dlouhy/Vanek 6-4 6-2

Re: Jarkko Nieminen and other Finnish players

Umag doubles QF

Ferrer/Vicente d. Nieminen/Wassen 6-2 6-4

Somehow I'm not so sad that Jarkko didn't win today, now he can have some badly needed rest and is able to prepare better for the Sopot tournament next week.

After Sopot it seems that Jarkko will rest for 3 weeks and he will only play in New Haven before the US Open just like JMG reported earlier. Jarkko won't try to qualify for the two Masters tourneys if he doesn't get in directly (it seems very unlikely to happen).

Re: Jarkko Nieminen and other Finnish players

They were at least 2-6 1-5 down today, and the last game was over deuce!

I hope Jarkko won't play these two clay tournaments after the US Open, but 2 or 3 events in Asia and then the European indoor tournaments. It's time to win some matches there, didn't he lose ALL his matches in Stockholm after the sensational final in 2001?

I notice that Tuomas Ketola doesn't play so often anymore. I hope he continues in 2006, because he's still much better than the others, especially on indoors and hardcourt.

Lassi Ketola has won some kind of "longest-drive-contest" (Golf), hitting the ball 323 meters.

week31: T.Nieminen/Paukku will play Latvia F1
week32: T.Nieminen/Kiiski will play Lithuania F1

Yes, I noticed that too. So still no rest for Jarkko, he keeps on playing week after week (8 weeks in a row from Wimbledon to San Marino). Well, San Marino is a big challenger (80 points for the winner) and it hasn't got the strongest list of players because of the Montreal masters. I just hope if Jarkko goes there, he will give his best and not play like in Biella CH.

So Jarkkos schedule looks like this:

week31 Sopot
week32 San Marino
week33 finally some rest
week34 New Haven (only hardcourt tournament before USO )
week35 US Open
week36 US Open (hopefully still there )

Re: Jarkko Nieminen and other Finnish players

Jarkko got Puerta in the first round. Puerta is 1st seed, but it's much easier to defeat him than Coria for example. Come on!!!
