Bryan Brothers Win Paris, Head To Shanghai
by Tennis Week
11/07/2005

When they aren't preoccupied trying to save doubles from the ATP's "enhancements" that shorten sets, twins Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan and partners Mark Knowles and Daniel Nestor continue to state their case for doubles with compelling clashes on the court. The Bryan brothers held off their long-time rivals and friends, Knowles and Nestor, 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-4 on Sunday night to win their first career BNP Paribas Masters championship in Paris.

It was the fifth tournament title of the year for the reigning U.S. Open champions marking the fourth straight season the Bryans have collected at least five championships.

The Bryan brothers snapped Knowles' and Nestor's 11-match winning streak and widened their lead in the Race for the year-end No. 1 ranking to 86 points over the second-place team of Jonas Bjorkman and Max Mirnyi. The Camarillo, California twins fly to Shanghai tomorrow seeking their third straight season-ending Tennis Masters Cup championship.

"It feels good to get some momentum going into Shanghai," Mike Bryan said. "I thought we played a great tournament from the first round on and it was a tough match today and we were lucky to win. Knowles/Nestor are the hottest team on the tour right now and we had to play our best tennis to beat them. There's still a lot of tennis to be played. We haven't clinched it yet so we have to play good in Shanghai."

The Bryan brothers dropped just one set en route to the Paris title beating Sebastian Grosjean and Arnaud Clement of France, 6-4, 6-1; Andy Ram and Jonathan Erlich of Israel, 6-4, 6-1; and the Zimbabwe duo of Wayne Black-Kevin Ullyett, 6-3, 6-2.

When they return from Shanghai, the Bryans will headline the Paulson Investment Doubles Invitational set for Sunday, December 11th at the historic Irvington Club in Portland, Oregon. The Paulson Investment Doubles Invitational will benefit www.savedoubles.com, an initiative established to raise awareness of the top doubles players' lawsuit against the ATP.

Congrats to Andy Roddick, 2017 Hall of Fame!

The Tennis Diet:
On the eve of the Roddick/Cilic match, my brother made Seafood Marinara. Can't eat it,
it's not part of the diet; it is enemy food. ie. Marin-ara Cilic.
I also did not eat Curry 'cos it rhymes with Murray.

I watched the match on court today. And I waved the America flag cheering for bryan. They are so cute. Unfortunately, they are not lucky today. I will focus on them the next days. They are so nice. I love them.

Re: Bryan Twins

I'm glad you had fun Athena

I watched the first set on tv this morning and the guys didn't seem sharp at all. Especially on the return, usually they put a ridiculous amount of serves back in play, but this match they were just having trouble and just weren't quite spot on. hopefully they can get back on track and end the year #1 and do the 3-peat

Re: Bryan Twins

Bob and Mike beat Knowles/Nestor 6-4 6-4 to stay in contention for the semifinals... it'll be close though, b/c they play Paes/Zimonjic next who are 2-0 in their group, so there could be ties involved if the twins pull it out.

I shall watch their match later on tv

Also, Bjorkman/Mirnyi now have to win the whole title to have a shot at over-taking the guys for year-end #1
