NRL ROUND TEN

WINLESS South Sydney are the bet of the NRL round, according to Sportsbook.com.au punters, with the cellar-dwellers the firmers in this weekend's match against Penrith.

"It's hard to believe but Souths have been very well backed, the best-backed team in any game so far," said Sportsbook.com.au spokesman Col Greer. "In head-to-head betting, the Bunnies have firmed from $3 to $2.75 with a bet of $6000 on them at the $3, while the start originated at plus 8.5 [points] to Souths at $1.90 and after a $10,000 bet on them at that option, the points start is now at plus 6.5.

"The feeling is that with Penrith having a number of players backing up from the City-Country game on Friday night, Souths get their chance to finally win a game."

Greer said there was also good money for the Bulldogs to easily account for the hapless Parramatta.

TAB Sportsbet's Glenn Munsie said the best-backed team with his agency had been the New Zealand Warriors in the Saturday match against St George Illawarra. "Punters have avoided the Dragons like the plague," Munsie said. "There has been good money for the Warriors both to win at the head-to-head and with the 8.5-points start."

Munsie reported bets of $7000 on the Warriors to win at $3 and $6000 at $2.85, which brought their quote into $2.75. "The support with the 8.5-points start amounts to bets of $13,000 at $1.85 and $3750, $3500 and $3000 at $1.80," he said.

As for the Friday night City-Country match, bookmakers reported a sprinkling of interest in it. "The biggest bet has been one of $3300 on Country at $2.30," Munsie said.

Tonight:Country @ 2.30

Re: NRL ROUND TEN

Anyone who puts their money within 50ft of South Sydney obviously has more dollars than sence .. I cannot understand why these mug punters choose to get involved in bets like that ..

For mine the Warriors are a risky punt as well. The law of averages says the Dragons will be primed for this one having been well down for a couple of weeks. Sure the big fat +8.5 for the Warriors looks great, but at WIN Stadium I wouldn't be confident of a bottom three team covering that.

Anyway, rule of thump says to stay out of these City - Country games, and I will, but if anything I'd side with BG and favour City.

Like the Broncos given Manly's predicament with Kennedy out and a few others backing up from tonight .. Hard to see St George dropping to 4-6 with another loss too ..

Re: NRL ROUND TEN

Im a Panthers fan, Souths are def a voodoo team for us, where ever they play, especially @ Penrith. However I still see them bouncing back against the rabbits, i just hope we dont let souths get away to a good start.

Souths have always troubled Melbourne n Penrith. I taking Penrith ML and most likely south 1st hald handicap or +4

Re: NRL ROUND TEN

Well I must be a mug Flamb because I genuinely think the Bunnies have a good chance in this game.

Penrith will have seven players backing up from tonight's match and I doubt Gower will be backing up as he is still playing in pain right now. When you combine that with their recent form it hardly makes them a good bet this weekend.

Although Souths haven't won a game yet they have been showing glimpses of form and if they can ever maintain their focus for 80 minutes they will give plenty of sides a fright.

I agree with you about Brisbane. Kennedy is the heart and soul of Manly and without him they are terrible. Also when you add that they are on the road and have a few key players backing up from tonight they are looking down the barrell of a big scoreline, especially after what I saw from Lockyer last Sunday!!

Like BG and Flamb I'll go with City tonight. My reasoning being that they seem to have more guys in their squad that are fighting for Origin jumpers and that they also have guys in the key positions that are in form right now.

Cheers,

Sparks

Re: NRL ROUND TEN

Hehe no offence intended Sparkus! It's just when I read about blokes lobbing six grand ect on Souths to win a game I find it puzzling when you've got an entire weekend of matches and footy codes to bet on.

I agree that game on sunday looks so awkward for the Panthers for the reasons you've highlighted, but how on earth can these big punters trust the Rabbitohs to do the job ?? If anything I think Finns is more on the mark with a first half bet on Souths .. More often than not this season they've been competitive at the break, but blown away afterwards.

Anyway .. my only lean at this stage of the weekend is probably a Broncos - West Coast double at around $2 .. Broncos because they're playing well and will they'll be meeting a beaten up Eagles side .. and the West Coast, well you hardly need an excuse when they're taking on an interstate side in Perth do you?! Add to that the fact they'll be smarting after last weekend's derby defeat.

Re: NRL ROUND TEN

The way St George are going it just depends what frame of mind they are in, if they are anywhere near their best they should be too strong down at the gong as the warriors are a bad lot.

Re: NRL ROUND TEN

Hehe .. Ahh well I've tipped the Cowboys Sports Freak, but with no great conviction! In a toss of the coin game, going with a home side that boasts a great record is a smart play .. ! The only real reason I tipped the Cowboys is because Storm coach Craig Bellamy has been tied up with the Country team all week .. But hey, don't let me talk you out of it because they've been pretty irresistable at home of late ..

I like your Dragons pick .. contrary to popular opinion, I forsee the Dragons breathing a bit of fire tonight .. They've had two ordinary losses on the trot, and back at home with their season kind of at the crossroads, I think they'll make a statement. You'll likely get great value for the home side minus the start because there's been a real plunge on the Warriors all week ..

Yeah Flamb do like both games, actualy think the Dragons wil crush the Warriors!!Storms list n form at home suggest they will be hard to beat, maybe the option of either team 1-12 is most likely outcome imho!!!

Ive already got a parlay of St G-8.5/Storms/Buldogs -4.5/Sharks +4.5!!!!
