Re: Tennis Tipping Rules and Changes Thread

Will there be a vote on the challengers? I personally think no-one in the top 50 can play them.

TT record after my long awaited return: 2011
CHAMPION: Vancouver CH
Runner-Up:
SF: Sopot CH
QF: Guadalajara CH

Doubles (with tennisfancroatia unless stated)
CHAMPION: Vancouver CH
Runner-Up:
SF: Sopot CH, Astana CH(w/herbal), San Marino CH
QF:

Top 50 singles rankings?

So if someone is a top 50 doubles player but not in singles, can they commit in a challenger for singles only? Or both?

I think it's hard since everyone here plays doubles and singles regularly and that's not so on the tour where they are mostly a different set of people

I think naturally top players aren't going to want to play challengers except for if they lose in the first week of a slam.

Cibulkova - Robson - Kirilenko - Azarenka

The board will make a decision about the challengers, a poll is not likely for this matter.

Re: Tennis Tipping Rules and Changes Thread

The three polls have now closed and the TT board has made some new decisions for next year. Here they are:

Entry System

The entry system will undergo a major overhaul, here's how it will work:

Singles

32 player draw -> 28 direct entries, 4 qualy spots (max. 16 player qualy draw, 32 only in special occasions)
64 player draw -> 56 direct entries, 8 qualy spots (max. 32 player qualy draw)
128 player draw -> 112 direct entries, 16 qualy spots (max. 64 player qualy draw)

- Entries will be based on ranking (rankings from two weeks before the start of the tournament)
- Tournament thread posted on Sunday two weeks before the start of the tourney (for example, the Doha tournament on week 1 would have it's thread posted on December 17th)
- Players have one week (from Sunday till Sunday) to commit to the tournament for singles and this will be done by ranking (doubles commitments don't start yet)
- On Monday after seeing the entry lists, players that aren't among the 28 direct entries, can move to another tournament which has free places or decide not to move and play the quallies there
- Unranked players will always go to the bottom of the entry list
- Friday evening is the deadline for changes and the draws are made after that for quallies and md

Doubles

16 team draw -> 14 direct entries, 2 qualy spots (max. 8 team qualy draw)
32 team draw -> 28 direct entries, 4 qualy spots (max. 16 team qualy draw)
64 team draw -> 56 direct entries, 8 qualy spots (max. 32 team qualy draw)

- Entries will be based on ranking (rankings from two weeks before the start of the tournament)
- Doubles commitments start on Monday (the week before the tournament), players that are in the singles entry list can now pair up

Example for Doha 2007:

Sunday Dec 17 ~ tournament thread is posted, the commitments by ranking will start
Sunday Dec 24 ~ the entry list for the tournament is posted
Monday Dec 25 ~ players can move to another tournament (1 change is allowed)
Monday Dec 25 ~ doubles commitments start, players from the entry list pair up
Friday Dec 29 ~ the entry lists are finalized, the draws are done
Sat-Sun Dec 30-31 ~ quallies
Mon Jan 1 ~ main draw play will start

Counting the retired matches?

The match will be counted if one point is played.

Qualifying for the 2007 doubles Masters Cup

Top 16 players in the doubles entry rankings will qualify for the TMC.

PTS or Set Ratios as TB method?

Set Ratios will be used first (invu2day's 'shoot-out' system ->PTS or Set Ratios as TB method?) and then the 'new' PTS (PTS or Set Ratios as TB method?) if needed.

This system will be tested for the first time at the Maui challenger next week.

Challengers

Top 30 players in the singles entry rankings can't play them, except during the Davis Cup and Grand Slam second weeks when there are no ATP tournaments played.

Ranking System

The ranking system will remain the same (4 Slams + 14 best others), but 0's for missing a Slam (which the player could have played with his ranking) will be added just like in the ATP.

Partner sending both players doubles tips

Will not be accepted anymore, the picks must come from two different players.

Playing TT with more than one account

In order to retain the integrity and the spirit of TT, this is not allowed. Players that appear to be suspicious of having accounts transmitting from the same IP, will have their IP’s checked by the supermods and could risk being suspended in TT.

Re: Tennis Tipping Rules and Changes Thread

So what if someone has a really low singles ranking, and an't get into a tournament, but has a high doubles ranking. Does that mean they can't play doubles as they don't have a good singles record. Then what would be the point of having a doubles ranking. I am thinking of someone like nadie or alekutza??

If they can get even into a qualy list in singles they can play doubles at that tournament. So planning your schedule and following which tournaments are going to have a low cut-off will become more important. We will monitor how this system is going to work and make changes if necessary.

Re: Tennis Tipping Rules and Changes Thread

I like the changes, too. We won't have strange things like a 128 draw in New Haven any more. But I think it's hard to predict how difficult it will be for new players to gain enough points to make the cut for the big events...
