Suggestions for a new TT Statistics site design

Hi everyone!

I've decided to rewrite the code for the TT site and so I need your opinions about how it should look and what should be there. I already know that a more complete tournament adding and editing section is required so I'm not asking about that, I'm asking about how the data about tournaments and players should be displayed. Please answer the following questions if you have something to say regarding all of this.

1. How often do you visit the site?

2. Would you visit it more often if it had more features or better layout?

3. What is the most useful feature of the current site? Player playing history? H2H results? Tournament results?

4. What would you like to see in the new site the most?

5. If you could search for any statistics, what would you search for the most? For example, which players have passed the second round the most often? Or which players have had the most accurate picks? Or which tournament has had the tightest competition?

That's it for the regular users. Thanks.

Disclaimer: I'm not really a professional web developer, and this is just a hobby site, so I don't guarantee that any or all requested features will be implemented.

Now I have a question for managers and dinkulpus and anyone who knows what data models are. I'm not planning to make many changes to my data model, but I think there are some tournaments that can't be entered currently because they have a round robin format or something like that. How do you think this problem should be solved? And are there any other such problems I'm not aware of?

You don't have to hurry with answers, you can take a few days or even a few weeks to think about all this. Building a new site will be a long process anyway.

Re: Suggestions for a new TT Statistics site design

Hi Evita,

I'm posting this here as you don't have a TF Account.

1 – Nearly all TF TT managers use this in their events now.
2 – Probably even more would be made of it if there were more features.
3 – The H2H’s are the most popular.
4 – The possibility of producing H2H’s for doubles matches.
5 – A listing of any individual tournament – eg Wimbly, if it were possible to list the history of the event, eg - the rounds at that tournament reached by each player.

I’m not technical minded myself - I’ll flag this up for Halit in case he has any other points to add here.

EDIT - HAVE HAD A RESPONSE FROM HALIT - HE'D LIKE ME TO ADD :-

Hey,

I agree with all of your answers , especially the fifth one.
In addition , i can add 'Title Count' if it's possible.

You can contact me on my TF Account or adriancollins@hotmail.com. I rarely log on here anymore as became TF Admin.

Re: Suggestions for a new TT Statistics site design

Hi again Evita,

I've got to act as a go-between here as you don't have a TF account - and Halit doesn't have a MTF account, he's asked me to mention this :-

I updated 3 tournaments yesterday. I was going to update Antalya now but i had this message. 'Data updates have been temporarily disabled while the site is moved to a different server. It might last a few days.'

Also i see MTF players names in our TF part of the website. Probably (i hope) nothing to worry about but i just wanted to inform you about this.

You can contact me on my TF Account or adriancollins@hotmail.com. I rarely log on here anymore as became TF Admin.

Re: Suggestions for a new TT Statistics site design

Hi Evita,

Here are my answers:

1. How often do you visit the site?
Everytime I managed, let's say once every week

2. Would you visit it more often if it had more features or better layout?
Yes of course - I think it is good but we could develop the design to make it more attractive

3. What is the most useful feature of the current site? Player playing history? H2H results? Tournament results?
H2H results for sure
Player history is good too

4. What would you like to see in the new site the most?
The possibility to import an excel spreadsheet to simplify the process of entering results
The possibility to add DTT results as well.

5. If you could search for any statistics, what would you search for the most? For example, which players have passed the second round the most often? Or which players have had the most accurate picks? Or which tournament has had the tightest competition?
Yes - we tried to implement it but hard to do by myself so if it s the tool propose this kind of option it could be good.
But I like the history of tournament played by player (or by surface)

TT singles: - Rank 130 (+113 in 2013)
Finals: CH Buenos Aires'12, Fut Poitiers'13
GS: AO13:Q+R1, FO13:Q+R2, WI13: QR2
TT doubles: - Rank 94 (+175 in 2013)
Titles: CH Buenos-Aires'12, Fut Poitiers'13 , CH Caltanisseta'13, ATP Bogota (with Fickelgruber)
PAW: Rank 36 (Race: 19)
FITD: W Kuala Lumpur'12, Dusseldorf'13, 2nd Sydney'13
DTT: W Doubles (w. goOudinUSA)

Re: Suggestions for a new TT Statistics site design

AdeyC: Yes, I did that, I made a backup of all the data and I don't want anyone adding anything at the moment. The thing about MTF players being on the TF site was a mistake, it's fixed now.

Once the domain is transferred, it will not work right away, but you'll be able to access the site in read-only mode at MTF Tennis Tipping Statistics until January 4th. Once I set everything up at the new site, you'll be able to add tournaments again. It will still be the old site, though, just a cheaper hosting.

supertom: The idea about importing the results is interesting. Not an Excel, but a CSV file. I'll have to think about it.

Re: Suggestions for a new TT Statistics site design

1. How often do you visit the site?

Pretty often. I go back and see my results and try to update the website as often as I can.

2. Would you visit it more often if it had more features or better layout?

Yes, design would be important because it's not the most physically attractive.

3. What is the most useful feature of the current site? Player playing history? H2H results? Tournament results?

To me, it's not very useful it's just cool to be able to see your H2H between you and an opponent and see what form they're in. I like to view my form during certain parts of the year.

4. What would you like to see in the new site the most?

Doubles H2H and brighter, attractive layout of the website, and perhaps DTT results if possible.

5. If you could search for any statistics, what would you search for the most? For example, which players have passed the second round the most often? Or which players have had the most accurate picks? Or which tournament has had the tightest competition?

Maybe the rankings can automatically update on the website based on the results you enter in. That would be absolutely insane and I'm sure @Taz Warrior would love that!

Tennis Tipping Singles Titles (3): GS US Open '16 ATP250 St. Petersburg '15, Cali CH '14
Tennis Tipping Doubles Titles (5), All with Thunderfish8: Cherbourg CH '14, New Delhi CH '15, Yokohama CH '15, ATP250 Sydney '16, ATP250 Doha '17

Re: Suggestions for a new TT Statistics site design

As one of the person who use a lot this site.

1. How often do you visit the site?

Almost everyday.

2. Would you visit it more often if it had more features or better layout?

Design is not very important for me, the content is better.

3. What is the most useful feature of the current site? Player playing history? H2H results? Tournament results?

For me I used a lot for H2H, also when I put on page 1 Past winners and I always check my results to see what I should defend.

4. What would you like to see in the new site the most?

Doubles H2H

5. If you could search for any statistics, what would you search for the most? For example, which players have passed the second round the most often? Or which players have had the most accurate picks? Or which tournament has had the tightest competition?

I'd love to see statistics, for example, best players in GS, to have some lists with overall wins and etc.

Re: Suggestions for a new TT Statistics site design

Thank you to those who posted their opinions. I hope more people do this.

In the meantime, I just wanted to let you know that the new site will have separate login credentials for each user, not the same password for everyone anymore. Those who are not entering results also will be able to register in order to see their own statistics easier.

The registration process will be like this:

1. You will send a designated person (let's say dinkulpus) a PM here on MTF asking to be registered and specifying your e-mail address and your TT name (which will probably be your MTF username).

2. The designated person will create a new user and link the TT player name to the e-mail address. A randomly generated password will be sent to the e-mail address.

3. You will be able to change the password later if you want.

Re: Suggestions for a new TT Statistics site design

Hi Evita, nice to see you posting. I think I am answering as part of the "crew", or the rest, since Martin, Tom, BMT, or even Adrian (you're still missed around here btw) are more regular and GREAT TT managers.

1. How often do you visit the site?
Once a week, once a month, but in certain parts of the year (June-Aug, when big tournaments are packed) 4-5 times a week

2. Would you visit it more often if it had more features or better layout? Of course

3. What is the most useful feature of the current site? Player playing history? H2H results? Tournament results?
3.1 Players stats, when it was more regularly up to date, it was interesting to see how our opponents did previously.
3.2 H2H obviously
3.3 Points...way back in the past.

4. What would you like to see in the new site the most?
4.1 Site updated, maybe points could be added automatically by entering the matches. I mean, once you set the type of tournament and then the respective matches, points could be added right away.
4.2 An option to have 2 columns in the H2H and be able to select some tournaments from each player at the same time. That would be really cool, but a bit (haaaard) difficult I guess.
4.3 The ranking at the time you played a certain tournament...yeah! Very similar to what BMT proposed

5. If you could search for any statistics, what would you search for the most? For example, which players have passed the second round the most often? Or which players have had the most accurate picks? Or which tournament has had the tightest competition?
Exactly Adey's choices.

Code:
TT Singles: 173 (High 108 Mar 02 - 2015) Finals: 1-4
2013 RU: Salinas CH
2014 W: Mons CH; RU: Cordoba CH
2015 RU: ATP Doha
2016 RU: Leon CH

TT Doubles: 62 (High 62 Apr 18-2016) Finals: 5-12
2012 (2-3)W: Villa Allende CH; Guayaquil CH (w/SamR03A)
2013 (2-2)W: Mons CH (w/Renaud); Yeongwol CH (w/cserkinho)
2014 (0-2) // 2015 (0-3)
2016 (1-2)W: Buenos Aires CH (w/raft89)

Oh that’s very kind of you to say so

The second I realised that I’d forever be blocked from becoming an Admin whatever I did I instantly knew it was time to leave here and stop wasting my time contributing. Things worked out fine for me in the end though – I became an Admin in TF last November and still do the TT stuff there.

Evita - I've had this PM from Halit (the person who inputs on the TF side of things) - I'm more than happy to do this :

Only you , me and Meelis needs it though for the moment. More access = More mess.

Also you missed Axel323's commitment in Stuttgart (post 23) , didn't want to post in thread.

Thank you.

Re: Suggestions for a new TT Statistics site design

I'm not sure what the PM means. Everyone will have their own password in the new site, and the administrator will be able to change user access levels anytime. But it's way too early to think about this.

As for the old site, I asked the domain name to be moved to a new registrar more than a week ago, but it still hasn't been done. I don't know what the hold up is but I'm trying to solve it. In the meantime, don't be surprised if the site goes offline for a while. I don't want to pay another $12 for another month.

Re: Suggestions for a new TT Statistics site design

Hi Evita,

Setting Admin rights is the perfect solution in my opinion as I remember in the past some have tampered with things when they shouldn't.

Having read the above thread in full I see what Halit meant.

The TF side of it, it's just the one person does all the inputting, and just myself and another TF Admin who knows what the password is. Halit took over from Andelko after he left, he wants me to represent the TF side of it rather than himself which I'm perfectly happy to do as obviously in the past I did a lot of inputting myself.

At the end of the day, when everything is completed and ready, would it be possible to have two Administrators, one for MTF and one for TF

P.S. If you need a further contribution let me know.

Yes, of course. In fact, that's the only possible way since the sites are totally separate with separate databases.

Moving to another topic, I wasn't having any luck with the domain transfer so I decided to get a new domain. THIS IS IMPORTANT! The new address for my site is and will be http://tt-statistics.info. You can forget about the old address, it will soon stop working. You can log in and add matches at the new address now.

That's great - well for the TF side of things I've been asked to be the Administrator when the time comes.

I'll also mention the new site address over in TF.

Thanks again for all this, this work of yours has done so much to advance this great game
