TT Poll: Entries into tournaments

Okay, we've had a bit of debate as to whether we should just have entries into tournaments on a first committed, first in basis or whether it should go by ranking.

For me, I've had a change of mind, and I am going to go with the order of commitments.

Cheers.

Oh, and by the way, now the draw sizes are gonna be twice as large so there's probably going to be plenty of space in tournaments for the time being.

Re: TT Poll: Entries into tournaments

I'm undecided at the moment...

But what's going to happen in TMS weeks where there is only one tournament? There isn't going to be room for everyone then and committance would be hard for those in a different timezone to the one starting the thread.

Re: TT Poll: Entries into tournaments

Maybe you could make a commitment thread for the upcoming tournament in the TT section, like what is done on WTF.

Re: TT Poll: Entries into tournaments

I think that entries should be by rankings, but to the players with no ranking I think that we can create wildcards (10%/15% of entries).

What do you think?

I agree with the question of timezones.

The draws for these tournies are going to be at least 64 players, should at least 24 hours before they fill up.

Re: TT Poll: Entries into tournaments

Monte Carlo: more than half spots out in less 9 hours. I think 33 players when 64 is limit. In this way, all spots will remain in 18 hours in TMS.

Imagine the number 1 of TT fail a Tennis Masters Series because don't appear in MTF in 18 hours Do you want continue with this system of entries? I think that is unfair.

The pace of entries will slow down after the early rush and if somebody misses out on one of the TMS tournaments, he can replace it with another one in his ranking. I don't think it's unfair, the field will most likely take atleast 48 hours to fill up completely and there are always chances for alternates, just like this week in Valencia for example.

I prefer play in a TMS, I don't care if I can replace with another tournament. And about the time, in last week I was out from Sat. to Wed. and no acess to internet, if it happened in this week I was out of Monte Carlo.

I'm just try discuss this thread. I think that 80% or 90% of entries should be by rankings. Think about a number one out of a big tournament because this system...

90% of entries by ranking would would bring problems to newer players. Don't you think it's unfair? I think rankings aren't mature enough to be used as entry system. Maybe we could reserve some spots to late guys, but it needs to be studied yet.

Re: TT Poll: Entries into tournaments

i voted for the wrong one.. i vote for Order of Commitance
and on the other hand i think the first 6/8 spots should be reserved for the top seeds until the tournament starts... this makes it fair for the seeds and the newbies...

A commitment thread for a few tournaments in advanced is the way to go.. Also opening TT threads in each Tournament subforum informing people that commitments are open.

my 20 cents

MC: 46 spots gone in 42 hours. I don't think it's too fast yet, maybe in the future this might be a problem if there is lots of new players...

Re: TT Poll: Entries into tournaments

I think that the majority of people who want to play commit fairly early on when they see the thread has been put up. The threads are always up at roughly the same time each week so people should know when to expect to see it, then the commitments tend to drop off after that.

In Miami, there were 56 people entered in the first 48 hours, whilst only a further 12 committed over the next 7 days.

In Indian Wells, 50 people entered in the first 48 hours, whilst over the next 8 days, only 18 more people entered.

Since the draw sizes were expanded there have always been spaces available in one tournament each week so it's not as if they don't get the chance to play - it may not always be in their preferred tournament but that's just the way it goes. You can't please everyone all of the time. Also, most weeks there are people who don't send in their tips in the first round so there are always alternate positions available.
