The old way managers could not make draws properly.
On Sunday, qualifying started and there was a full 16 player qualifying draw but people in Miami main draw were still in (just in case they lost) but if they won then they would be removed and then we have too many open spots and lucky losers. I had 7 lucky losers once in one of my tournaments. It was a mess. Then the #1 seed in qualifying who should have been in the main draw, lost in qualifying because we had to wait to see if players lost in Miami or not. That is unfair and too much inconsistency.
So it was voted in the off-season that the Saturday cut off is the cut-off for the qualies and main draw. This way there is fixed entry list and the tournament is fair.
