Re: Tennis Tipping Managers 2012 - Need managers for October

I just noticed this in the Izmir CH when I was looking at my result there. I noticed djadjakone was signed up and playing there.

djadjakone was also signed up for Trvana CH (which I run) and signed up there first but did not send picks for the opening round yesterday.
At no point did they say they were out for either tournament.

Just wondering what happens here, as they didn't send picks for one of the tournaments but it was the first one they entered.

Re: Tennis Tipping Managers 2012 - Need managers for October

I'm definitely out guys. I don't want to be called a selfish cow. As I've learned now managing tournaments is really selfish.
But ask Crvena Zvezda I think he'll be a good manager.

Re: Tennis Tipping Managers 2012 - Need managers for October

Honestly, if the manager tells you there is gonna be late diffs by like a few hours then that's okay imo.. People aren't in every time zone and we need every manager we can get.

But diffs shouldn't be posted early. That said I don't think we should be telling anyone to stop managing over a few mistakes because if that was the case, we'd have no managers left.

Re: Tennis Tipping Managers 2012 - Need managers for October

Late diffs destroy everything TT has for me. If the manager is forced to run the tournament because there aren't enough managers it's OK. But in this case it should be written somewhere, as bandtree it does for example, and not said with the first OOP. So I would have never committed to Izmir.

Re: Tennis Tipping Managers 2012 - Need managers for October

I don't understand why it does though. I mean are you checking to see if you won the minute the matches start? Most of the time people posting later diffs, the matches are still going on. It's not like you can change your picks on a late diff. I managed Shanghai, and then Petange on late notice... I tried to get diffs up right away but sometimes you can't. Life happens.

Re: Tennis Tipping Managers 2012 - Need managers for October

20 minutes, 30 minutes no problem. Most of the managers post from office or something and probably have meetings and so on. But 2 or 3 hours as it would have been I think are to much for me.
you have one diff, match is already played, you know everything. Yeah... In this case I can also bet on chess. I wanna cheer for my diff during I'm looking at the live score. The celebrating of a guy on position 283 I didn't know before. That's what I like in TT and not looking in the thread in the evening and see: "Oh I've lost"...

Re: Tennis Tipping Managers 2012 - Need managers for October

Well, guys, just calm down! I am really sorry, I did make a mistake! Just one thing to tell, I did explain exactly what I was going to do in the OOP of yesterday. Nobody changed that, so everybody has some blame. And for me, late diffs are not fun as well, that is why I always wanna be able to post the diffs in time if I manage. But, that is not always possible, and as I explained it would be only today. So, for somebody not wanting to join a tournament because of 1 day late differences, is a little bit strange.

And about not managing, there are always people who blame other people. Eric (Crvena Zvezda) was a good friend of mine, I played lots of doubles with him, and he is clearly overprotective. Just as a matter of fact, to avoid these confrontation, don't put direct remarks after one mistake in the thread. Or really post it as an option, not immediately pointing a finger. A PM would have solved the issue and it would have stayed silent and I would have apologized anyway!

I understand your position, but, sometimes, happens excepcional problems. Then, the problem isn't a delay, but several delays.

Re: Tennis Tipping Managers 2012 - Need managers for October

More one opinion.

For me, the player is responsable for commit in ONLY ONE tournament.
Already hard for manager make entry list with no mistake. Check if all players are in other tournament is more work, and time. And, some managers not have time for this.

The player that commit in 2 tournament, and not ask OUT in one, for me, can receive some penalty.

Re: Tennis Tipping Managers 2012 - Need managers for October

First I've to say I didn't want to blame anybody personally. Two different things happened with a distance of 3 days. I grumbled because of late diffs on Saturday as I expected Freak3y would post diffs the whole week. I did not know that you will post them on weekdays. Then today it was the other way round, too early and I thought a board member would know that it's not good as it happened quite often this year. But probably I've chosen all 4 tournaments where it happened this year.
So it was the addition of the things that happened from Saturday to Tuesday which made me so grumpy.
Again I didn't want to point a finger on anybody and if somebody feels personally attacked by me I'm really sorry.
And for sure in an arguement nobody is right in every point and of course I wasn't in this one.

Early deadlines are another point you can argue about. I really like them (if the OOP is out early enough) as I said. But I also understand the opposit arguments.

I still want to help as much as I can, as I also tried in Izmir but if I wanna manage whole tournaments I've to think about for one evening/night.

Re: Tennis Tipping Managers 2012 - Need managers for October

Recently I was involved in a situation in TT where a rule I didn't really know about knocked me out of a week of TT. This matter was handled between me and the Board done by PMs. I still don't think that rule should have been used in my case, but it was decided by the Board that it should be. I didn't go around demanding that all the Board members quit because I didn't like the way something was handled. Nor am I going to stop playing TT because of what happened! Mistakes and misunderstanding can easily happen in a game that is as complicated as TT actually is! (Believe me until I started reading two long threads about TT I had no idea of everything that could happen!) We need managers for TT and right now we have new managers and some former managers are coming back which I personally think is a good thing! But in the "heat of the moment" things can get said out in public that should not have been said or at least not said in public. The people that play TT should realize that if there aren't managers we can't play TT! And shouldn't be trying to run off the managers we have! I don't think those posters could run a TT--I know I certainly could never do it! So I hope Mahqz will continue to manage because after a TT is over I have found that things about the running of the TT are quickly forgotten as everyone moves on to the next TT. So just get this TT over with as best you can and then let everyone forget about it which I would say is exactly what will happened

Just wondering what happens here, as they didn't send picks for one of the tournaments but it was the first one they entered.

In cases such as this :-

What happens if a player commits to two different tournaments in the same week?

If the player commited first in a tournament and then commited in another one, the first one prevails. The player must withdraw from the tournament they've previously entered before being accepted in the entry list of the other tournament (as a late entry). If the double commitment is not noticed by the managers, points gained by a player who commits to tournaments in the same week will be disconsidered. If the infraction is noticed before the tournaments start, only the first commitment is valid and no punishment is applied.[B]
