Re: Tennis Tipping Managers Thread 2008 (tournaments available now)

IMO It can be tricky for European managers to manage a US or SA event, you have to be prepared to stay up very late or update very early in the morning. For US or South-American players that want to sent picks the night before it can be very awkard when the OOP is not posted until the following day. They are playing in their own timezone so they have a right to expect that OOP's are posted in a timely manner. I say this from experience when a European manager had to manage a US challenger.

Basically, I think US or South-American tournaments should be assigned to US/South American managers if possible.

Note that there is much less of a problem for American managers of European tournaments or European managers of Asian tournaments because then the time-difference is in the favourable direction.

You didn't ask anything

Felipe was the better choice here, you can manage something else if you like.

I cant run in January tournaments, and there are only CHs left.

Why was Felipe the best choice? I cant really understand.

well.. IMO I think that is up to the manager.. it can go both ways.. i mean, i managed mumbai and matches started something like 1 am.. then i managed other tourneys where game started at 5 am.. and finally buenos aires where game started by midday it is tricky, i think a wise idea would be to have an assist with different time zones to post OOP in those cases (or put the alarm clock, get up, post oop , do updates and go back to sleep but only if there is no choice cos it is a bit of hell )

i think a nice rule could be taken for 2008 here (im getting the idea right now and ill try to post it on the other thread) about managing and time zones! , to have an assist ideally from the time zone of the tourney if the manager is from other continent

Re: Tennis Tipping Managers Thread 2008 (tournaments available now)

I have university in the morning so with my timezone I risk not to be at home when play starts.

With US timezone I'm at home for sure when play starts (usually late afternoon) and if OOP comes out at about midnight-1am I don't have problems...

Thanks to the board for choosing me for Zagreb.

I think it's difficult to make rules based on where people live because not everyone has the same schedule or works a 9-5 job. I think it's best to just trust the managers that they know what they're doing. I will never sign up for an Asian event because I know that time zone isn't great for me. And I now know better than to sign up for Metz because the OOP for Metz always came out ridiculously late But I really think it comes down to just having responsible managers, which is what Ville does by having managers prove themselves in smaller events first. I think most managers when they sign up, think about what will be realistic for them to do

Troicki - Djokovic - Del Potro - Kyrgios - Berankis
Cibulkova - Robson - Kirilenko - Azarenka
Retired but always loving Ferrero - Ancic - Kiefer

you all know I think Jeronimo is persona non grata.

He managed a tournament and showed no interest for the rules of the game. Showed no respect for the players.

A guy who starts a thread named "suck it" in General messages... don't think we need a manager with this kind of profile. It looks like he has a very bad reputation in WTA TT, I think some people who plays there can confirm - I've played just one tournament there and there were problems with him (Los Angeles).

tiptopdaisy asked first for Miami, but Jeronimo didn't even bother reading 3 pages in this thread. It shows he is not serious enough to run a tournament.

it seems there are more people asking to manage tournaments than tournaments available, so I think there is no place for Jeronimo as manager.

and I'm not sure if his 110% is enough.

note: TT Trnava thread is still waiting for updates.
