Russian Igor Kunitsyn has cruised into the second round of the Australian Open qualifying event with a comfortable straight sets victory over Czech Jan Minar.
Kunitsyn, seeded number 14 for the event, was barely tested as he sailed to victory, winning 6-4 6-3.
The Russian, ranked number 127 in the world, broke Minar's serve twice early in the match to race out to a 4-1 lead.
Despite Minar trying valiantly to reel in the deficit, Kunitsyn managed to hold him at bay and win the set 6-4.
The second set was a much more even affair with long rallies and powerful hitting a highlight.
It took until the seventh game for the Russian to again gain the ascendancy and break Minar's serve, before holding sway and booking his berth in the second round.
After the match, Kunitsyn was delighted with his opening hitout in Melbourne.
"I was quite happy with the way I played," he said.
"It's always difficult to play your first match here, but I think I really enjoyed it out here today and I did what I had to do in straight sets."
"I'm really looking forward to the second round."
Kunitsyn will now meet either David Guez or Bjorn Rehnquist in the second round.
