There is some plausible ground on which to ban statements like "Player x is a piece of shit", but to ban nicknames like noserer, nadull, fakervic, mugray is going a bit too far.

Have to make a distinction between malicious bashing and humourous banter.

I had suggested to police GM, fine, and not the other forums so people who take part in chat threads in NT can continue with their usual banter and they can say whatever they want but keep it out of GM.

Federer / Haas / Safin / Gaudio / Kuerten / Youzhny / Nadal / Gonzalez / Ljubicic / Hewitt / Soderling / Wawrinka / Coria / Nalbandian / Kohlschreiber

No, police NT, and allow banter to stay in GM.

What is the point in a sports forum, without the banter?

Main reason I love being a sports fan is because of the banter..

Re: Player Bashing Rule: Feedback

If what happened in the Djokovic/Kohlscreiber match thread is indication of how mods are going to reinforce the new rules, I would say mods are over zealous. And proves the nay sayers in this thread (and the previous one) right.

Just look that even tards who hated when their fave was called Mugray/Faker/Nadull/Frauderer are against this rule.
All the MTF, all the posters who disliked each other, are together against this rule.
Totally agree with Prodigy, this is the sports forum. It's part of the sport to banter, we are not discussing Dostoevsky here.

Saying a player is not talented is player bashing?

As far as I know that's an acceptable bashing as the rule only discusses about nicknaming in general.

Re: Player Bashing Rule: Feedback

I don't see a problem with the rule whatsoever. It's not like you have to be happy about everything, you can still critique, but you just have to do it more or less respectfully.

Same here. I don't even see where others see a problem with this rule. Are people really that dependent on being able to insult players?

Re: Player Bashing Rule: Feedback

I would like to know how the moderator team would define the ´improvement´ that this rule is supposed to bring. Will it make GM more visited, more read? Will more people post in it, people who are offput right now because GM is such a contentious section of the forums? It seems that, based on the recent deletions of posts and threads, this rule will be interpreted in a very loose manner, subsuming much more words and phrases than would be prudent and understandable. Posters who would otherwise post and contribute will cease to do so. Which would mean that this would constitute a classical case of shooting oneself in the foot.

And you'll seriously miss the posts of people who are unable to contribute without using an insult?

As I mentioned, while I support this new rule wholeheartedly, I agree where the other members are coming from. It has been a tradition, which seems too radical of a change to just simply take it away in one night. I hope we can all conclude to a common ground in as this ordeal unfolds.

I really can't see what's to miss about someone who can't even write a sentence or any kind of a short post without insulting someone but you are entitled to your opinion of course.
