Re: San Luis Potosi $50K

I'm EXTREMELY annoyed by this tournament's choice in wildcards. Of course I don't have all the information, but just seeing who got them:

Main Draw WCS:
(Player Country Rank)
(WC)Sebastian Salas (MEX) 925
(WC)Juan Manuel Elizondo (MEX) 603
(WC)Jose Maria Herrera (MEX) NR
(WC)Kyle Doppelt (USA) NR

In Qualifying:

Santiago Gonzalez (MEX) 279
Bruno Echagaray (MEX) 310
Daniel Garza (MEX) 515
Victor Romero (MEX) 628
Luis Manuel Flores (MEX) 637

So basically there were 3 players in qualifying ranked higher than ALL of the main draw wildcard recipients. Not to mention the ENORMOUS number of players obviously ranked higher than the non-ranked players.

To put those low ranked players in the main draw while your country's #3, #4, and #5 ranked players are forced to play qualifying is just insane. Luckily #1 and #2 got into the main draw with their rank... otherwise they may have left them out as well! It rather annoys me.

There are rumours that South American Challengers sell wildcards to the highest bidder. In the past couple of years wildcards have gone to

Kyle Doppelt (USA) NR (San Luis Potosi 2005)
Edwin Kerkhoven (NED) NR (Salinas 2005)
Andrew Kolker (USA) NR (Puebla 2004)
Shane Laporte (USA) NR (Bogota2 2004)
Kris Nathan (USA) 1415 & Ruo Yang-LI (AUS) NR (Quito 2004)
Josh Olivas (USA) 1428 & Paul Downey (CAN) NR (Manta 2004)
Amadeus Fulford-Jones (GBR) 1247 (San Luis Potosi 2004)
Alex Stone (USA) NR (Salinas 2004)
Noel Moosa (USA) NR (Bogota 2004)

Not one of these players won a set, some didn't even win a game.

Re: San Luis Potosi $50K

Just check out Amadeus Fulford-Jones' career activity if you want a joke. It consists of 99% first round loses in futures in Africa, the Middle East, etc. Also are a few challenger loses in Latin America (bought WC's I'm sure). You have to check ITF's page if you want to see all the qualifier losses as well.
