Mani, use what Jiat did but P should be in thousands, so you start with P = 16,560 and then when you move this to the other side of the equation it become -9810 (=6750-16560). Solve this and you get 30, which added to 1970 gives 2000.

And, I'm lost on Q63 too. Do you have the formula to calculate a volume?

And, yes, I'm a total geek.

Yep, I got that too. t=30 because P is in 1000s.

I'll take a look at 63. I'm guessing there are some derivatives involved as you have to determine a max and the area under the curve.

Another geek here too.

I love my girls.

yeah. i was thinkng it involved calculus. because u can't find the maximum of y just by solving the equation

*good vibes* *good vibes*

Now to problem 63.

To find 'maximum', you'll need the first derivative:

so if y = -0.0025x^2 + 1.25x, then the first derivative is:

y or 0 = (-0.0025*2)x + 1.25

Solving for x, yields:

0 = -0.005x + 1.25
-0.005x = -1.25
x = 250

Now, plug x = 250 into the equation to arrive at the maximum height.

y = -0.0025(250)^2 + 125(x)
y = -156.25 + 312.5
y(max) = +156.25

I love my girls.

Re: Nat = Tootsie Roll |: (p.s. Kimmay is fuckin awesome!) chat thread

Shall I go on? Or can you take it from here...with these hints:

"Width" is determined by 'solving' the equation.

"Volume" is determined by the 'area under the curve' (which should come from taking the integral between 0 and your 'width') multiplied by the depth (which looks to be 500 ft).

If you really want to get fancy and turn your answer in with how 'volume' would be expressesd on a real construction site, the solution should be in cubic yards (which is # of cubed feet divided by 27...or 3 cubed).

For example: 100 ft^3 = 3.7cy

And for what it's worth, a typical dump truck holds 10 cy.

(and I hope I'm right . It's been a looooong time.)

I love my girls.

Eh, I'm not sure it's exactly...calculus. I seem to remember doing some of this stuff in Algebra2 as well. Like I said, it's been a very, very long time. 1980. So that'd be on the order of 25 years. Longer...than most of ya'll have even been around.

I love my girls.
