TENNIS LEGEND PETE SAMPRAS FORMS NEW COMPANY – PURE SPORTS MANAGEMENT
Gus Sampras To Run Newly Formed Entity As President
March 29, 2007 – Rolling Hills Estates, CA -- Pete Sampras, the all time leader in Grand Slam victories, along with his brother Gus Sampras have announced the formation of California based Pure Sports Management, LLC. The company will be run by Gus who will serve as President.
Pure Sports Management will oversee all business opportunities for Pete Sampras including but not limited to exhibitions, marketing and sponsorship endorsements, personal appearances and other special events. Pure Sports Management will also seek to create and develop other events and opportunities, as well as venture into managing other athletes in the future.
“After I retired, I had many different companies approach me with various opportunities and I wanted to streamline all of these deals through one entity,” said Pete Sampras. “Starting our own company and having my brother Gus run it was a natural as he has been involved throughout my career. I am also looking forward to being involved in the company and offering my knowledge to future clients guiding them through the opportunities and pitfalls they may face throughout their career.”
“I have been working with Pete throughout his career as an advisor on a number of projects and I am excited to now have the opportunity to manage our company while overseeing and creating various opportunities for Pete. Pete and I offer a unique blend of knowledge and experience and we are looking forward to sharing it with others.” said Gus Sampras.
Pete Sampras has won the most Grand Slam Titles in the history of tennis, having won a total of 14. This includes seven Wimbledon championships, five U.S. Open championships, and two Australian Open championships. Pete will be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame later this summer in Newport, Rhode Island.
Gus Sampras has worked in sports marketing for over 18 years. His experience includes 12 years at International Management Group (IMG) where he served as Vice-President of IMG Tennis. At IMG his positions also included Director of Professional Tennis Properties, Senior Account Executive, and Event Manager with projects as diverse as managing professional ATP and WTA tour events, developing sponsorships for Olympic and Professional Volleyball, consulting for the University of Southern California in selling the naming rights to their basketball arena, and a myriad of charitable and community benefit programs involving athletes. In addition, he has had stints in Minor League Baseball and Youth Volleyball. Since 1988, Gus has held the positions of Business Manager, Treasurer and Secretary of Pistol Pete, Inc. which oversees the financial activities of Pete Sampras.
