and Anna Kournikova
highlight the list of visitors to Dwight Davis Tennis Center this summer as part of the St. Louis Aces' World TeamTennis schedule. The Aces also gave their roster a hometown flavor by drafting St. Louis native Aleke Tsoubanos.
"We have the best coming to St. Louis," Aces general manager Dani Apted said. "And we have the best coming home to St. Louis. Aleke is the best player to come out of St. Louis in years."
The Aces have seven home matches in the WTT season, which runs July 6-26. Specific dates will be announced in the next two weeks.
Sampras, 34, is the all-time leader in Grand Slam singles titles with 14. He'll be making his first appearance in team tennis and will play for the Newport Beach Breakers.
Kournikova, 24, sold out Dwight Davis in 2003, when she appeared with the Kansas City Explorers. This time, she'll play for the Sacramento Capitals. Also scheduled to appear at Dwight Davis are Mark and Bob Bryan, the top-ranked doubles team on the ATP circuit, who will play for the Explorers.
Three of the four members of the Aces' roster will be familiar faces.
Tsoubanos, 23, played at Creve Coeur Racquet Club and graduated from Parkway Central in 2000, then attended Vanderbilt University.
"St. Louisans love to get behind a hometowner," Apted said. "She's so scrappy on the tour, and she'll play the same way for us. Fans will love her."
Andy Ram and Jonathan Erlich are returning for their second season with the Aces. They are ranked 11th in doubles.
The lone newcomer is Maria Amelia Salerni, 22, a native of Argentina who is ranked 68th in doubles on the WTA Tour.
