Would Pete have let me down?

Pete has always been my favorite tennis player, but since he retired, I've been rooting for Federer. But Roger's match today was a huge disappointment. He fought back in the fifth set from down 0-4, and then he was serving for the match and had 30-love. And somehow he managed to lose it.

Fifth set, serving for the match, up 30-love. Would Pete have ever let me down in this situation?

Federer
Safin Gasquet
Ljubicic Moya Mirnyi
Robredo Nadal Gonzalez Ancic

Re: Would Pete have let me down?

I dont wanna belittle Federer but i dont think so, even early in his career Pete fought against the odds. Pete has had way tougher matches than that because Federer was just a little rusty from lack of Match practice. All you have to do is remeba Alex Corretja 96 ok, thats the be all and end all to show Sampras at possibly his absolute weakest, i mean they didnt have the luxuries that current players do, couldnt call the trainer whenever, he threw up and had the time warning called against him, then threw up again and needed litres of Intravenous fluids pumped into him after the match. He was far worse off than Federer. And even in that French Open (or could have been Davis cup on clay) match, he won in 5 sets and collapsed at "game set match" and they discovered that he had dislocated a spinal disk but his mental strength allowed him to win. And then remeba 1996 ATP Championship final in Hannover Germany, there was waaayy more intense crowd suppourt for Becker than there was at Shanghai for Federer, and Sampras was suffering from year end fatigue, it was his "worst" year so far in terms of his dominance cos he lost his Wimbledon crown because he was so tired after putting everything into the French open (it was the 2nd time ever that he did better at Rolland Garros than Wimbledon) and it was one of the most difficult matches of his career because he was physically and mentally spent but came back stronger than ever in the final set. It was much tougher than Rogers match sorry to say, because he was playing a very in form player who could also mix up his game better than Nalbandian and had a much better serve than Nalbandians, Plus the full house crowd on his side and the many losses of the season against Sampras, Plus fatigue etc, sooo much it was extremley intense. and he played 3 close tiebreaks and even lost match points, where as Roger came within 2 points of match point but never really lost ne match points which is mentally crushing

Re: Would Pete have let me down?

pete sampras is the best, greatest, toughest u name it
comparing Federer to him is just to premature
to me he will never come close _ no matter what records he breaks
Federer is possibly playing his peak years as I find it hard for him to play better or do better, so far he has not endured any tough times, he hasnt been tested,
& once injured & recovered just in time he lost to Nalbandian & wasnt able to tough it out. GReat match david
