Thanks Rosie

Yes, I watched the women's final from Dubai today and the commentators were calling it a desert kingdom.

This has got to be by far the strongest draw at a non slam or Masters event. I really wish I could go to Dubai.

*fingers crossed* I hope there's a live stream at least.

Yes - Dubai always has a great field - loads of people play there - mainly because they pay huge amounts of money The appearance fees for someone like Safin or Agassi will be enormous, even if they lose first round. I've heard good reports about the tournament itself and the organisation, athough I've never been there and it's never appealed to me much to be honest. A girlfriend of mine went a couple of years ago, and she said it wasn't the "easiest place for a lone, blonde, female traveller" - and it put me off a lot

Re: David in the Desert - the Dubai Cheering Thread

He lost 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 In retrospect I am not sure if skipping the South American clay court season for the hard courts was a good idea. I guess he wanted to try it (Coria, Ferrero and Nalbandian did last year too), - but they were all back on the clay this season. Maybe he should go back to the clay next year and pick up some easy points in some of the "Mickey Mouse" tourneys in Chile and Brazil instead of struggling against the more experienced hard court players in Europe. Ah well - good luck in the doubles David - my lunchtime is over and I have to get back to work now.

Re: David in the Desert - the Dubai Cheering Thread

Seeing this loss for David has got to be one of the most horrible ways to start a Monday morning.

The doubles looks like it would be highly entertaining (Lopez is such a clown). Vamos chicos!

Re: David in the Desert - the Dubai Cheering Thread

i also think he would have been better off back in south america, but maybe he wanted to *try* and develop his game on hardcourts. unfortunately he didn't get much of a chance to do that since he lost twice in the first round and once in the second round

better luck in the doubles. ánimo!

Re: David in the Desert - the Dubai Cheering Thread

Let's not forget this was his first outdoor match in a month - a necessary evil I think as he needs to be in form for Indian Wells & Miami.

But perhaps he would have been better off going to Las Vegas.
