Looks like David helped out with selecting the national football team and got a jersey with his name on it. Also, organizers are trying to get him to play in the Spanish Masters, which is being renamed Copa del Rey (King's Cup). I'm at work so I can't provide a full translation right now.

Re: News and articles about David

Sadly the link to the article in the Argentine newspaper "La Nacion" is no longer valid, but I read an article a couple of weeks ago, in which David pledged his support to Mariano Puerta over the recent doping allegations - sayng he would stick by Mariano and believed in his innocence. David really is a class act and a nice guy - just sorry that I didn't copy the article somewhere after I read it, so that I could post it here

David Ferrer's press conference 20th October 2005

Q. Can you imagine what Mariano is feeling right now, in his situation?
Difficult. But it's news that hasn't been proven yet. I'd rather not give my opinion. However, if the result is positive, I hope it was a mistake or something that didn't go well. I don't think he did it on purpose. Mariano is a great player and does not need these things to get to the top.

Spain's David Ferrer, 15th in the final points race, finally came just in case.
This is from the GM thread about Federer may be withdrawing from TMC.

Does this mean David's in Shanghai right now?

The opening ceremony is tomorrow afternoon, so I guess we'll know for sure then. I'm looking forward to the photos - not sure if they'll be in formal suits or Chinese-type costumes - but they should be great Btw - I'm going away tomorrow night for a week (visiting relatives over in Belarussia), - so if I'm not here for a few days -it's not because I've forgotten you or David!!!

Re: News and articles about David

It would be great if he´s in Shanghai, even though he´s only an alternate. If he´s really there, I´m sure this will be a great experience and a strong motivation for him.

Well I don't know about David - but I know a friend of mine was chatting to Mariano in Shanghai, and it seems the alternates were not allowed to actually take part in the ceremony So poor Mariano sat in the auditorium and watched - but could not take part, and I guess David would have been in the same position if he is there. I think it is a real shame for them

Re: News and articles about David

If the players are there as alternates and expected to step in and take part if required than I can't see any reason why they shouldn't be involved on the opening ceremony.
