Re: Australian Open

Hi all, hope all of you are having a weekend. Found interview of Ferrer regarding his next match up with Raonic. I'm enjoying watching his results this far. Am I being too optimistic if thinking he can make it to the semis? Nadal has said he's not playing his 100%..maybe this is Davids chance to progress further! Interview is pretty straightforward.

I prefer watching interviews rather than reading transcripts. You can see how a person talks and a bit of their personality shines thru. And I'm also posting this cuz I've been on this thread long enough to know that most people here adore him. Therefore click the link and enjoy!

Re: Australian Open

Go Ferru and Rafa! I would love to see Ferru progress past the fourth round. He is a good player and very tenacious. I love his fight! Perhaps because I am small, I like feisty players like David.

Re: Australian Open

Only Ferru and Rafa left for the Armada. I hope they win. I'm glad Dolgopolov beat Sod, but I hope the "upset virus" doesn't spread in the Top Ten to encompass Ferru, Rafa and Roger. I need someone to watch.

Re: Australian Open

Nice one Ferru!!! And into the QFs.

10 unforced errors!!! I'm so pleased that he's having the tournament he deserves. He's a really underestimated guy.

(I know some people think he's boring to watch, and say he just grinds out his matches - but you don't get to #7 these days by being a fluke - you have to be consistent and work and work and work: and that's what David does.)

VAMOS little fighter!

(Off topic I know, but, Dolgo was brilliant!!! Definitely another guy, with Raonic, to keep an eye on.)

Re: Australian Open

Brilliant bit in Montreal Gazette about Ferru inviting Raonic to stay at his place and practice with him last year... classy guy, eh?

Re: Australian Open

Ferrer Ends Raonic Campaign

Experience and guile won out earlier on Monday as World No. 7 Ferrer ended qualifier Milos Raonic’s campaign with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 victory over the 20-year-old Canadian.

On his Australian Open debut, Raonic had beaten World No. 10 Mikhail Youzhny to become the third Canadian man in the Open Era to reach the fourth round of a Grand Slam, but despite making a strong start against Ferrer, could not keep up his high level against the in-form Spaniard.

"There's a lot to learn from today and from the whole two-week experience," said Raonic. "[The] biggest thing is I'm not that far away from this level on a week to week basis. So this is a great motivational thing for the work I've done, paying off and everything. These next upcoming tournaments I feel like I can go in and do a lot of damage and keep improving my ranking a lot. So I'm going to go out there and prepare myself for each week accordingly and do as much as I can to win."

Good returning by Ferrer limited the big-serving Raonic to 15 aces in the match and enabled him to break the Canadian’s serve five times from 14 opportunities. Tiredness and inexperience took hold of Raonic in the final two sets and his unforced error count soared, finishing at 68 compared to just 10 from Ferrer, who sealed victory in two hours and 36 minutes.

"I think [it] was [a] very tough match," reflected Ferrer. "Milos I think is unbelievable player. He served really good. When I won the third set, it was more easy. He was more tired in the fourth set. I can broke him two times and I could win. But I played very, very consistent all the match. When I lost the first set, I did one mistake. It was unbelievable that one mistake can lose the set. He played really good."

Ferrer has made a perfect start to the 2011 ATP World Tour season, opening with his 10th title at the Heineken Open (d. Nalbandian) in Auckland, and currently riding an eight-match winning streak.

The 28 year old is through to the Australian Open quarter-finals for the second time, having also reached this stage in 2008 (l. to Djokovic). The right-hander posted his best Grand Slam result when he reached the semi-finals at the 2007 US Open (l. to Djokovic).

Re: Australian Open

Christ, his matches need to be more difficult because I keep falling asleep during.

Putting the alarm again. Here's hoping my baby boy will be kind to me tomorrow.

Anyway ... VAMOS David!!!!!!!!!!! He's been playing brilliant so far, much better in fact than Rafa so fingers crossed.
