He won again
but next up is Mario Ancic
Top seed David Ferrer advanced to the second round of the Ordina Open in ‘s-Hertogenbosch with a 6-2, 7-6(3) victory over Italian qualifier Massimo Dell’Acqua on Tuesday.
World No. 5 Ferrer, who opened his 2008 grass campaign with a win over Dutch wild card Jesse Huta Galung on Sunday in his ‘s-Hertogenbosch debut, fired seven aces and converted three of five break points to defeat No. 472 Dell’Acqua in their first meeting.
The 26-year-old Spaniard, who captured his sixth ATP title in Valencia (d. Almagro) in April, will now contest his eighth ATP quarterfinal of the season against sixth-seeded Croatian Mario Ancic, who cruised past Belgian Steve Darcis 6-2, 6-4.
The 24-year-old Ancic has won 12 straight matches in ‘s-Hertogenbosch and has a 15-2 lifetime record at the event. He captured the title in 2005 (d. Llodra) and ’06 (d. Hernych), but missed last year’s tournament due to a six-month illness layoff. The World No. 43 is through to his first ATP quarterfinal since February, when he reached the Marseille final (l. to Murray) and Zagreb semifinal (l. to Ljubicic).
