Gaël won't play in Indian Wells (via Twitter).
It will allow him to count one more optional result (2 if he does the same for Miami) : at the moment he can only count 3 of them because of 4 zeropointers for not playing last year despite the commitment to playing 4 ATP500 tournaments in a year for a top-30 player.
I think if he also skips Miami, it's a good choice to get two more optional results and take a rest between the indoor season and the clay season (with the Davis cup tie in Argentina first) where his injuries have seldom allowed him to compete well.
PS : I've read that his match against Simon has been blamed by many journalists but personally I had another impression, I think it really was a great match where both players were admirable
