It was no embarassement, or not a complete one. Greul hang in after a dreadful first set and got better and better, kept being attacking though he had missed quite some volleys earlier on.

Re: Early Hardcourt Season 2010

His level of play definitely was an embarrassment.
I don't care about Greul, there's no excuse for Gaël's performance in the last two sets. He can't be giving his best effort and play like THAT.

Seems as if I am more forgiving.

Coming back to my DC theory. Ferrer, certainly one of the more competitive guys out there lost, too as did Cilic, Karlovic, etc. etc.

Re: Early Hardcourt Season 2010

Losing to Greul is not like losing to Blake Greul was finally the top player of german team
Clay season is coming we'll see if he's able to play his real game.

Re: Early Hardcourt Season 2010

It's clear, they should have selected Greul for both singles and the double in DC, he already beat half the french team in two days
So a tournament to forget. I wanted to be angry at Gaël but his twitter is so heartbreaking, I just feel very sorry for him now

Didn't see it... maybe it's better that I didn't. Let's just forget this tournament

Re: Early Hardcourt Season 2010

In L'Equipe:
Quote:
Monfils : « Je suis chaud contre moi »
He self-destructed in style against Greul. Up 6-1 *1-0, he decided to do the exact opposite of what was working so well, moved backwards and let Greul walk all over him. He was very angry after that big mess of a match: "I'm at the end of my tether. It was a crappy match, it sucks to lose like that. I'm pissed off and I won't stay long to talk with you." In fact, he left immediately and even walked back to the hotel to unwind a little bit. Chamagne: "I had never seen Gaël so angry at himself after a match. He didn't look for excuses. His pain in the hand has nothing to do with it. He just played in a completely wrong way. That change of tactics when he was in control of the match is beyond understanding. We're going to stay a few days here and work."

Re: Early Hardcourt Season 2010

Chamagne says in L'Equipe it wasn't just fun in LV, they also did a lot of condition training in the desert and they talked a lot with Roger. They're pleased he takes his defeats like a man now and doesn't start whining about some injury as soon as he loses (it's about time...), so Chamagne finds the reaction after the terrible Greul match positive in a sense - but they want him to recover a positive attitude on the court too because he didn't seem to enjoy himself at all in IW.
