Wow, congrats! Was it a question about tennis?
You're doubly lucky, it's a great match so far.

Well it was an eventful match! Shame Gael didn't win it though!

Re: Early Hardcourt Season 2010

I hadn't read in GM yet, the thread about his match really is the proof one shouldn't give too much credit to MTF match threads to know what happened in a match. It was far from being a mug performance.
Too many ups and downs, sure, and Gaël's shot selection made me cringe more than once, but it was great to see him fight, try to mix up his game, go for his BH and put intensity into his shots after the abysmal efforts in Brisbane and J'burg.

Chamagne says in L'Equipe that there were a lot of positive things in this match and he's happy with Gaël's attitude against a guy who was playing well. Gaël's conclusion also is: "Well done, Micha!"

He's been complaining since the beginning of the week about the balls and says that's why he was hitting so many df, but I'm not sure about that. He's been definitely making more df since the beginning of the season, not just in Rotterdam imo.

I'm wondering why Rasheed wasn't there again, I didn't spot him against De Bakker either.

Re: Early Hardcourt Season 2010

Maybe he decided to stay in Australia, after AO? My friend says she saw him at practice, but maybe she was wrong. I can't imagine him being in Rotterdam, but not showing up for a QF.

Gael wrote on his twitter that he will be playing doubles with Paterne in Marseille

Re: Early Hardcourt Season 2010

Thanks, it would make more sense indeed, I thought you had seen him yourself.

His draw in Marseille:
(8) BENNETEAU, Julien FRA - QUALIFIER
KUNITSYN, Igor RUS - SERRA, Florent FRA
CLEMENT, Arnaud FRA - SEPPI, Andreas ITA
BYE – (3) MONFILS, Gael FRA

(5) SIMON, Gilles FRA - ROCHUS, Olivier BEL
QUALIFIER - QUALIFIER
ROCHUS, Christophe BEL - ISTOMIN, Denis UZB
BYE – (2) TSONGA, Jo-Wilfried FRA

5th attempt to eventually win a match in Marseille!
He plays tomorrow in doubles.

Re: Early Hardcourt Season 2010

You didn't say that, it's just how it sounded. There's an article today in L'Equipe about the fact that Gaël pulled out of Acapulco for the Davis Cup and they say Rasheed is in Australia (they're still working together, Gaël called him to make his decision). I hope he's fine, it's been a while now.

It's also on yahoo.com now. Smart decision I think.

Good luck to him. Seppi indoors shouldn't be a problem though.

It's another mental Gael match

Well, he got there in the end.

Re: Early Hardcourt Season 2010

It was such a terrible performance.
He complains he is exhausted again. It was too hot, he had no energy, he could hear the comments of the people in the stands when he wasn't chasing down a ball, but he swears he couldn't run, etc. etc. He was trying to shorten the points, but he was missing so much, it was plain painful to watch.

The only highlight (together with the aces stats and a couple of points in the 3rd set tiebreak) was the interview just after the match, he apologized in a very cute way for having played so poorly, he kept saying that he was so lucky to go through playing like that and really wants to redeem himself today.

He says it's the reason why he pulled out of Acapulco too, he feels exhausted again.

Re: Early Hardcourt Season 2010

Maybe he should see a doctor or something, he seems to get tired like that a lot, and for apparently no reason?

I saw a bit of the match last night, and honestly if he really has to play like shit, I'd rather see him hit 200 km/h forehands into the stands and put volleys in the bottom of the net like he did yesterday, than what he used to do before. At least he looks like he's trying to do something. Plus he won the match in the end with a nice tiebreak.
