Re: Fall tournaments 2009

too bad for Gael , but what a great effort anyway because it didn't look good at all at the beginning of the match, Nole was playing so well but Gael found some ressources to come back in the match like he did practically in all of his matches this week!!
The speech was great as well well done Gael, I'm proud of you!!
And come back stronger next year!!

Re: Fall tournaments 2009

It was a terrific effort, very proud of him too.

He was far from his best tennis this week - he can be way more powerful and consistent than that (he said again today that he was hardly practicing anymore by the time of the tournament). So the mental strength he's displayed this week under these circumstances is very, very promising (for his future RG title ). A few months ago, he was seen as a choker who can't win a set in a final to save his life, whoever stands on the other side of the net. What a learning curve, Gaël! I really can't wait to see what he's going to do next year.

(I loved the speech too - the description on the official website:
LaMonf takes the mic first and says “merci merci merci” to the crowd, then goes on to thank his team, coach (telling him that he’ll win it next year and that Roger’ll have to learn French by then), his mates, his Mum – everyone he’s ever met, actually. Such a polite lad.)

Re: Fall tournaments 2009

"It's [been] a very strange year," assessed Monfils. "I don't believe it's a very good season. I hope it's just a normal season. But I'm happy because I had one title and a final in a Masters 1000. I would like to be Top 10. I'm not very far, but I'm not Top 10.
"This end of season gives me really the desire to work hard so that next year maybe I will have a full season. I'm thinking if I was able to play all the year round, all the tournaments, how good it would be. Without doing that, I'm already Top 13. I don't want to over-estimate myself, but if I had played a full year this year I would have been among the Top 10. I'm almost sure of that. I'm sure next year I will be able to get back within the Top 10."

I agree. He put up a hell of a fight. The only negative point was the DF on match point, though.
