It was a terrific effort, very proud of him too.
He was far from his best tennis this week - he can be way more powerful and consistent than that (he said again today that he was hardly practicing anymore by the time of the tournament). So the mental strength he's displayed this week under these circumstances is very, very promising (for his future RG title
). A few months ago, he was seen as a choker who can't win a set in a final to save his life, whoever stands on the other side of the net. What a learning curve, Gaël! I really can't wait to see what he's going to do next year.
