His audio interview:
He's happy, it was a good match, he had a little lapse of concentration at the beginning of the 3rd set, Koubek was playing well and took his chance then, he was very solid from the baseline during the whole match. Gaël means he probably was a little too passive then and it cost him the 3rd set, but no big deal.
Koubek's shots are very flat, without much pace, they're not so easy so play.
But Gaël was serving well and played a good match in his opinion. He feels ready for the next round, it will be a big fight from the baseline, but he has one full day to get ready.
The last part of the interview is all about his muscles and the fact that he gained so much weight in a short time:
The muscles help a lot in his game (he explains it a little bit in the ES interview I posted in the Interview thread the other day, I didn't have time to translate it yet, sorry), but he needs to get used to it. It's a lot of weight to carry on the court. He thinks he is a bit slower because of that. He used to weigh 79-80 kg, now 86,5 kg (I love how he always stresses the "0,5 kg"
), it's a big difference.
A journalist asks him if he feels like a car towing a caravan and he laughs.
It also is very hot in Melbourne, which makes it even worse, it sometimes is tough after a long rallye. But he has a good natural recovery ability.
He thinks he will lose some weight during the season anyway. He gained a lot of weight because they worked like crazy during the off-season, but he isn't working so much when he's playing tournaments and he thinks he will also "slim down" a bit playing more matches. Plus he will get used to it too, it's still new for him.
