Re: Summer hardcourt season 2008

Center Court again, it is nice, but I won't stay awake for that match. I watched The Don last week in Toronto against Gilles Simon and it was an errorfest! I guess he was having a bad day (and Gilles does have a talent for making the opponent play badly), but still.

They don't even play in doubles to get a bit of practice before the Olympics - they probably didn't enter the MD anyway and Gilles wants to rest in case he loses early in singles.

Re: Summer hardcourt season 2008

I haven't read any news yet, just watched the few highlights, but he sure looked sick, he was sweating so much at 3-0 already!
Kudos to him for stepping on court and winning a match in that form, I guess he only played because it was The Don.

Did he play at least more aggressive tennis to try to shorten the points then? That's what he did in Marrakech when he was about to throw up on the court. He played 2 sets S&V out of the blue on clay - and the crazy thing is that he was quite good at it!

Maybe they're all Cylons and they're now having the effects of living on earth. Okay, I'll stop now.

He actually played quite fantastic. Serving bombs, taking big forehands and bigger backhands earlier than expected. If he played like this regularly he would clearly be a top 20 player. I would like to see what this kind of playing would look like if he wasnt sick

Simon, Mannarino, Chardy,
Paire, Benneteau, Gicquel

Muzza

Fogna

Dolgopolov, Petzschner, Kamke, Malisse, Haase, Andujar, Riba

Re: Summer hardcourt season 2008

In l’Equipe today:
Quote:
He says Young played exactly the shots he likes, high balls without power. But he’s sick. He was sweating so much, his legs were shaking, his stomach was hurting, he threw up right after leaving the court. He doesn’t know what it is, but he means it shouldn’t be a problem against Haas.

I hope so! I quite like his chances against Haas if he’s fit, I think he can annoy the hell out of Haas with his attitude and his extreme retrieving and that’s the key against Haasi.

He leads 1-0 in the h2h, but it was on clay 2 years ago, so it doesn’t really count.
2nd match on Grandstand tonight, allez!

Yes, he was just sick, not injured, don't worry.

Re: Summer hardcourt season 2008

His reaction in L’Equipe, with more details about his digestive issues :
My stomach was hurting during my first match against Young already and I even threw up after leaving the court. I wasn’t feeling better on Tuesday and I couldn’t practice. I was still vomitting. This morning I had diarrhea. ^^ In short, it was impossible. I didn’t even want to step on the court, but Roger didn’t give me the choice. He wanted me to try. He's tough.

That's exactly how it looked to me, I don't doubt he was sick, but imo he was more trying to make clear that he couldn't play than trying to play.
This is going to be an explosive collaboration with Rasheed, I hope he sticks to him for a while though... Champion seemed so "soft", the Rasheed style is worth a try, it might work better.
