Grass Court Season 2007

I see Gael is going to play in Queens again this year, along with 's-Hertogenbosch and Wimby obviously. I hope he doesn't play Hertogenbosch and gets a little rest. He got to the quarters last year at Queens, where he retired against Blake. I know grass is not Gael's favorite surface, but I think he can be successful on it this year. That serve that was amazing against Nalby yesterday, will be absolutely deadly on grass. Allez Gael!!

Tim Henman--Gael Monfils--James Blake--Donald Young--Rafael Nadal--Jo-Wilfried Tsonga--John Isner--Janko Tipsarevic--Richard Gasquet.

Re: Grass Court Season 2007

If he serves like he did in RG, he will be difficult to beat on grass, and hopefully Benhabiles will help him to tweak other areas of his game. Good luck on grass Gael!

C'mon Gaël! It's a shame someone with your weapons doesn't like grass. Hopefully it will change!

Re: Grass Court Season 2007

He's also playing doubles with Paulo, lol, I'll be shocked if they win one match.
They're playing Bennet/Mahut in the first round.

Re: Grass Court Season 2007

Good start to Gael's grasscourt campaign, he mauled Andreev 6-3, 6-4, while not facing a break point and also pounding 14 aces.

Tim Henman--Gael Monfils--James Blake--Donald Young--Rafael Nadal--Jo-Wilfried Tsonga--John Isner--Janko Tipsarevic--Richard Gasquet.

Re: Grass Court Season 2007

I saw the match, he was serving huge and Andreev sucked in the two games he got the break. So he didn't need to show us his great volleying skills.

He was moving better than last year (last year he spent more time lying on the ground than standing, everybody was having a good laugh, but it wasn't very effective). He looked very focussed too.

Re: Grass Court Season 2007

Solid match
He held to love by serving 4 aces in a row in one game in the 2nd set, never troubled on serve
He even serve and volleyed a couple of times

Re: Grass Court Season 2007

I thought he was injured when he lost the second set 6-2 after having a 2-0 lead!
Apparently not.
He just broke at 4-4 in the third, now let's hope he can stay focussed for one more game this time.

Re: Grass Court Season 2007

It was a bit of a choke today...I was looking forward to a match against Nadal
Never mind, Mirnyi is always tough on grass. On to Nottingham now I guess.
