Spanish world number two Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from the opening rubber of his country's Davis Cup first round clash with Switzerland after aggravating a muscle strain in training.

Nadal's withdrawal was announced only half an hour before he was due on court to face Swiss number three Marco Chiudinelli in the opening singles match.
World number 33 Fernando Verdasco - who was originally intended only to play in Saturday's doubles alongside Feliciano Lopez - will replace Nadal.
The 20-year-old French Open champion has made no indication as to whether he will be fit enough to play in Sunday's reverse singles.
Spain are still the favourites for the tie against a Swiss team who have to cope without world number one Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka who was forced to pull out after tearing a knee ligament in training.
Wawrinka has been replaced by Stephane Bohli, a Davis Cup debutant who has never won a match on the ATP circuit.
