I think Guga have do it , will be better for him because now he feel so much pain and he can't play good . The operation will be a new hope for him. Good luck Guga !!!!!!!!

They don't make reference to his surgery because it seems that it is not too serious. He said to some Brazilian journalists:

Guga vem fazendo uma série de avaliações e vai usar a exibição em São Paulo, entre os dias 15 e 17, no Ginásio do Ibirapuera, para mais testes.
Nestes últimos dias em Nova York, Guga teve informações animadoras, com boas perspectivas de voltar a jogar um tênis de alto nível e conquistar novamente títulos importantes. Deverá fazer a cirurgia com Mark Philipus, responsável pela intervenção, com tremendo sucesso, em outro jogador, Sargis Sargsian, e discípulo de Tomas Byrd, que operou Guga da primeira vez. Na quinta-feira, no US Open, o armênio Sargsian não deixou dúvidas de sua recuperação ao jogar por mais de cinco horas diante de Nicolas Massu e ainda sair da quadra vitorioso, sem sentir nenhuma dor no quadril, como confirmou depois em conversa no players lounge, não poupando elogios ao cirurgião.

A cirurgia de Guga deve ser marcada para daqui a três semanas. A época do ano é estratégica. O brasileiro não costuma fazer boas campanhas em torneios indoor - apesar do título de São Petersburgo - nem tem pontos para defender. Além disso, como poderá ficar fora das quadras por seis meses, terá o direito de pedir proteção de ranking, recurso que o manterá na 21ª posição até retomar o circuito, em 2005.

Como um touro - Guga já não consegue mostrar seu bom tênis. As dores o incomodam tanto que, depois de duas horas de partida, fica praticamente impossível aplicar golpes mais potentes, especialmente a direita. Para manter-se no circuito, Guga vem seguindo uma rotina espartana, com sessões freqüentes de fisioterapia, massagens e exercícios específicos. Fez de tudo para buscar uma solução clínica. Está forte como um touro, com pernas bem definidas, braços musculosos. O problema está na articulação: não consegue ter a movimentação necessária.

A atual forma física de Guga deve ajudá-lo no período de recuperação. Mesmo assim, a volta ao circuito não será apressada. Ao que parece, tanto o jogador quanto sua equipe estão entrosados e confiantes em um bom resultado.

O anúncio oficial da cirurgia só deve mesmo ser feito depois da exibição em São Paulo. Até lá, Guga já terá em mãos todos os resultados de exames e testes e poderá definir data e local da intervenção, provavelmente na Pensilvânia, onde trabalha o médico que operou Sargsian.
