South of the Border - Down Mexico Way

I wasn't sure if a Challenger was really worth a thread of it's own - but I am just out of Hospital and not allowed to move around much - and very bored already..........!!!!

So next week Juan will play in the Corona Mexico City Open - here is a link to the tournament website http://www.coronamexicocityopen.com/ I know next to nothing about Challenger level tournaments - but this looks to be a good one - and Juan is top seed here. I think it's good that he is getting more practice and experience in smaller tournaments like this - where the pressure is less than in the bigger places like Miami. Young payers develop at different paces, and if things are not going so well at a higher level such as Masters' Series events - maybe a few smaller tournaments with more chance to win a few matches and get confidence is a good idea. Many other Top 100 players play regularly on the Challenger circuit so why shouldn't Juan do it too? Anyway - Vamos Juan and Good Luck!!

Of course Rosie, I totally agree with you. This Challenger can be very good for Pico. And c'mon it's not everyday that he is top seeded, I know it is a Chellenger. But hey let's enjoy it!

Vamos Juan, the best of luck!

Re: South of the Border - Down Mexico Way

Well the boys lost their doubles' match 7-6(5), 7-5, but sounds like it was a very close match against two extremely experienced doubles' players, - so nothing to be ashamed of. Juan plays his next singles' match today - here is the OOP.
Matches Start At: 1:00 PM
Lapentti, Nicolas ECU
vs
Dancevic, Frank CAN
followed by
Garza, Daniel MEX
vs
Sabau, Razvan ROM

Not before 6.00pm
Mónaco, Juan ARG
vs
Delgado, Ramon PAR
followed by
Langre, Daniel MEX /
Romero, Victor MEX
vs
Daniel, Marcos BRA /
Sa, Andre BRA

Re: South of the Border - Down Mexico Way

Here is a link to a match report http://www.abchoy.com.ar/leerdeportes.asp?id=11750

Juan says "Adrian had a bad day and I took advantage of it. It was difficult to adjust to playing at the altitude (2500m) - but he seemed to suffer more than I did with this".

Re: South of the Border - Down Mexico Way

Juan lost 6-7(4), 7-5, 2-6 I am seriously NOT impressed - he should have done better in a damned Challenger Looks like he ran out of steam in the final set - well - he shouldn't have - he's only 21 for goodness sake No excuses - I don't do excuses Please get your act together before you come to Europe Juanito!

Re: South of the Border - Down Mexico Way

Juan must read this so well written #13 post!

Well, I wish Juan’s going to come back to more serious results soon. Last time he had series of good matches in South America, didn’t he? So then it’s really the best time for him now to, yeah, get all his acts together and be ready to the great feats in Europe. Luckier draws for him…
