Hyeon Chung

In honor of his new career high top 50 ranking this exciting young player deserves his own player thread.

Hyeon Chung is a Korean player, born May 19th 1996. He's an energetic, agile, quick baseliner with a simple but strategic game. He's got a good mix of defense and offense with a steady (RH TH) BH and decent (RH OH) FH.

ATP: http://www.atpworldtour.com/en/playe.../ch27/overview

His best results this year have come on clay with a Barcelona QF, Munich SF and RG R3. He has had some setbacks due to injuries, making him miss the grass season this year. He currently bounced back with a nice result in the Montreal Masters, reaching R3.

Hope he keeps improving and to see much more of him in the future!

Re: Hyeon Chung

Next stop: Western & Southern Open Cincinnati USA

Hyeon will play the same opponent he had in R1 in Montreal, lefty Spaniard Feliciano Lopez, whom he beat in three sets.

He comes out in the 4th quarter:

Not an easy draw at all.

Roger Federer * Sascha Zverev * Kei Nishikori * Hyeon Chung

Re: Hyeon Chung

Hyeon lost to Lopez: 6-7(4), 1-6.

Awful second set, gifted two service games in a row to Lopez with bad serving and UE's. He also needs to improve his net game (what youngster doesn't nowadays) and needs to be cooler when a player storms to the net.

Hope he will do better in New York.

I think he has a good net game actually. At least, during the clay season I watched him closely and I remember him having some really good moments. Hasn't been quite as sharp since coming back from injury but hopefully he can pick it up in this tournament and give him a nice little boost going into the US Open. I hope he can just stay fit. I'm confident that he's too good not to make the top 20 if he can do just that.

Ah thank heavens, someone else here, so it doesn't feel like I'm talking to myself.

I believe you but it really stood out that match but you're right, have to give him some slack for still being on the comeback. And Lopez is a tricky player.

Next opponent tonight (European time) Rublev. NextGen battle!

Re: Hyeon Chung

Hyeon lost to Dzumhur 4-6, 2-6.

First match I got to watch in W-S and he loses. Not a good loss either, he was thoroughly outplayed by Dzumhur. I saw them play one time before and it looks like it's a bad match-up for Hyeon. Dzumhur has the answer to everything it seems, mixes up the shots well, is very quick. You could see Hyeon struggling to find a way and even resort to some first-strike ballbashing. He also made a lot of errors on Dzumhur's kick-serve. It didn't help that his own (first) serve was pretty bad.

Anyway, got some more wins under his belt and he seems in good physical condition. Onto New York!

Re: Hyeon Chung

Hyeon will play Horacio Zeballos in R1 of USO. R2 will probably be Isner.

Not a bad opening round at all. Zeballos hasn't played a match since early august and hasn't played on hardcourt yet since the clay season. They have never played before.

Re: Hyeon Chung

Hyeon defeats Zeballos in 4 and advances to the second round of the USO for the second time in his career.

Excellent win in 3,5 hours against a well playing opponent.

Re: Hyeon Chung

Isner as expected can be tricky. I think Chung needs a bit more time, he's capable but needs to stay fit and ready for each tournament.
