High time to start a thread for this duo. They are on the verge of entering the top order of the doubles world.Aisam is currently ranked 50. Boppanna is 60.Their team ranking is 20.Their immediate goal is to reach 40 so that they can enter the Masters Series & A.T.P. 500 tournaments. Next goal will be to reach 20 so that they are seeded in the tournaments they enter. Will they do it?? Best of luck to them!!!!!
Aisam-Bopanna played in Estoril 250 last week. Cud not do much. After beating the fourth seeded pair of Collin Fleming and Ken Skupsky in the first round, they lost in the Q.F. This week they played in the Bourdoux challenger. Lost in the Q.F. Not too great weeks for them. But that is understandable. They are mugs on clay. Grass is their forte, which is just around the corner. That is where most of their points are going to come from. Next week they play in Nice which is an A.T.P 250 tournament. Meanwhile Aisam is still ranked 50, Bopanna 59. Their combined ranking is 19 with 450 points.
Bopanna/Qureshi defeat C.Fleming/K.Skupsky 6-3, 6-2 in the Quarterfinals of the Nice Open. They now face Leos Friedl/Dusan Vemic in the Semi Final. They should win the S.F. Their opponents have not been in great form of late.
Great win over Dusan Vemic and Friedl!!! For once they did not choke in the tie-breaker as has happened so often. On the contrary they rebounded strongly after being down 5-8 in the tie breaker. This win should give them a lot of confidence as far as finishing off a match is concerned. Next time they go into a tie-breaker the positive vibes carried over from this match should help.
So they lost the final. The tie-breaker again coming in their way. As Bopanna said in his tweet " The tie-breakers are like a lottery". But they lost against a more experienced side. No disgrace there. Melo has seven A.T.P. Tour titles in twelve finals to his credit. Likewise Soares has three titles from six finals. Bopanna/Qureshi still get 150 points for their hard work. Not bad.
Qureshi should see his ranking move up from 47 to 46 or 45. Similarly Bopanna can expect a sharp rise in his rankings from 63 to anywhere between 56 to 54. Come on boys!!!!!
